Reviews...

Post by f1m »

I am working on setting up a reviews section on the main site - see https://www.f1m.com/review/test-review for the test review.

Does anyone have suggestions on information that I might need to add to the Review form?

Here's just a list of possible items to add.

Original release date
Purchase date (maybe?)
Build date
Paint used
Cost of item
Bought new/used and where from
Additional detail items used
Link for WIP thread
Time taken to build kit
Expertise of modeler
Tips you wished you knew after building
Modifications to kit from instructions

We have a very comprehensive list of kit reviews on a german forum.
The guys who worked on this are mostly F1M-members too.
You may take some inspiration from that!?

think it's an excellent idea. I always thought we should have a comprehensive list of F1 cars, able to answer the question: "I wanna build that car, what's the shortcut and what's the story?" that we so usually see asked.
I'll add to the list:
-pros/cons
-other options available of same car (hotlink, for sure)
-versions and alternate liveries
-Car easy to transform into...
Anyway, excellent idea.

The fields I'm currently collecting information about are:
  • Name
  • Scale
  • Team
  • Box Art
  • Images
  • Kit Price
  • Product / Stock #
  • Company
  • F1 Kit Database (links to an existing kit in the database)
  • Review Type (plastic kit, MM kit, diecast, decal, detail set, etc)
And the Review itself which will just be an open formatted text area.

For the moment, I'm mostly thinking about fields that are missing that we might want and that would be pretty common.. A lot of the ideas so far could go into the Review body field...

That's a great idea.

I would recommend though, to use only static values.

If a kit is out of production the price usually starts to rise until a re-release is announced. Tamiya's 1/20 McLaren M23 is a popular example.

I would also add 'Event' right behind 'Team' as many kits represent a specific version of the particular car.

I really would like to know, which season or better, which particular race a kit represents OOB.
Also, which other race versions are possible to be build with a kit.

Well, a review means a comment about the quality of a kit. Fidelity of the parts to the original, fidelity to the scale and detail level.
Very important to know corrections required. Also it would be great to add a list of aftermarket detail parts and decals available, used or not by the builder.

The review could be something like an open file where several people can comment to get finally a precise idea of what a kit can offer and what we need to improve.

And review section should include not only car kits but also detail parts or commercial material we can use in our models, for example tubing, wires, braided hoses, rivets...

And may be tools (chinese cheap airbrushes, paints..)

Currently I have several review categories

- plastic models
- multimedia models
- decals
- detail sets
- misc

I was thinking of adding media (books, magazines, DVDs, etc) but I think that may be a bit much.
