Re: Re-release Scale Motorsport Porsche 935 1/12 set
I contacted Matthew, here's his reply:
Hi Matti
Thanks for your email about our 935 Super Detail Kit re-release.
This will be a limited run meaning we will produce 525 kits, same as before
and yes each kit will be numbered. If you place your paid reservation before
15 April you will receive a 10% discount and your official kit number which
will appear on your kit box. Also there will be free shipping to any USA
address. I do not know yet what shipping costs will be outside the USA.
We have established the retail price and will announce it at the time of the
public announcement. Some costs obviously have gone up since we first
produced this kit in 2003 but believe it or not, some costs have actually gone
down!
We will actually be using most of the same vendors that produced the original kit.
The box art will be totally different. That’s all I can say at this point, just be on
the lookout for the email promo to our retail customer base in the third week
of February.
Thanks again for your interest, it means a great deal

Re: Re-release Scale Motorsport Porsche 935 1/12 set
Aside from a purchase(price will be high either way), I am really curious to see if changes/improvements were made. 17 years on with loads of feedback, knowledge, techniques and materials now more at hand than ever... Heard stories about parts not being used or completely invisible(considering the price). Only drooled at pictures of the kit and weeped when seeing the price on the kits...
Maybe it is 'just'' a re-run, which would be a shame but understandable for a multiple of reasons.
But; a quick comparison to the ScaleLab_24 kit is quickly made as soon as the kit is re-released. 300 USD for SL24 or 600 USD(guesstimate) for SMS... My wallet is not convinced and it does not need much convincing, ask the pile of kits and parts waiting...

We'll se about that...
Most if not all of the SL_24's detail parts are either 3D printed and photo etched while SMS kit has turned aluminum parts (and photo etch, cables, and wires etc of course). Maybe I'll get a SL_24 set for 934...

If you compare the Set to what Uli and Jaykay are doing now with the 3d printed parts and their Super Detail Sets, at this price it also looks a little bit outdated to be honest?
I'm sure Uli could come up with something even better for the same retail price if he wanted to...

Wonder if they'll think of putting the pictures on a thumb drive. I work in IT and its still requires some digging for me to find a USB DVD drive if I ever need to use a CD.
Re: Re-release Scale Motorsport Porsche 935 1/12 set
Yep. That was the first thing I thought of - who still has a disc drive? Heck, a lot of people won't even have the ability to plug in a USB drive at home, having moved to tablets and smartphones, and if you've got a MacBook, you can't even plug in a USB-A drive natively.
Je ne regrette rien.

I'm just wondering why 'number' the sets? They're not collectibles (in theory).

Just let Matthew know about this and he thought it was a good Idea to convert it to a thumb drive, so it looks like that will happen. For those who are using tablets and other devices that don't have a USB portal, I got a cable off of amazon with a female USB head on one end and a USB-C on the other end. It works fine on my Samsung Tab S5E for flash drives. I got it on amazon for about $7. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FM ... UTF8&psc=1
