Re: PLASTIC Upcoming F1 Releases 2021
I keep wondering why Tamiya have not released modern F1 Mercedes. It seems to have Mercedes license, as they've released AMG GT3.
Why not multiple WC/CC winning F1 car yet ? Is there really no fan base for Hamilton, Bottas and Mercedes in Japan ?

Mercedes in England and Mercedes in Germany are different companies and will have different licensing deals as well, its not a blanket deal to make any Mercedes car. Prior to losing the Ferrari licensing deal, the SF70H was a rather inexpensive kit for example, and other modern F1 kits like the F60 and RB6 didn't sell great either.

This isn't a nag or nitpick or anything. How do we know they didn't sell well?stubeck wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 9:05 am Mercedes in England and Mercedes in Germany are different companies and will have different licensing deals as well, its not a blanket deal to make any Mercedes car. Both SF70H and RB6 are fetching big $$$ on ebay and even on Yahoo!Japan auctions. I have hard time believing they did not sell well, as it looks likeTyrone wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 11:52 amThis isn't a nag or nitpick or anything. if they were to be re-released now, there would still be high demand. Again judging by auction prices.

Re: PLASTIC Upcoming F1 Releases 2021
F60 wasn't even title contender. SF70H was sort of. Yet, both were released. Ferrari must be popular brand in Japan. Mercedes F1 team is 5 times CC by now, still no kitstubeck wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 9:05 am Mercedes in England and Mercedes in Germany are different companies and will have different licensing deals as well, its not a blanket deal to make any Mercedes car. Except that is not quite relevant.stubeck wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 9:05 am Mercedes in England and Mercedes in Germany are different companies and will have different licensing deals as well, its not a blanket deal to make any Mercedes car. Yes, there are market separations, and company structures etc. But the licensing comes from a central company, and it in turn gives licenses for markets, for suppliers etc.
If what you say is true, then there would not be any Mercedes toys made either, and yet these do exist.
As do die-cast F1 cars.
It's just that for some reasons either Mercedes is asking for too much, or the kit makers do not beleive they will make money on them. Which is actually the same, only reversed...

Yes, it would be nice...great idea.JamesB wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 3:55 pmThat it has not raced in F1 either!!!
No, serioue, I heard somewhere that it´s coming. I´m less in a hurry on this one, I have the IXO. Not one of the better models (not, by a mile!!!) of that collection but fills the shelf anyway!
BTW it´d be nice to have a MotoGP section, right?? I´d post dozens of things.... just sayin!

Re: PLASTIC Upcoming F1 Releases 2021
Look at prices of the models before the pandemic, and also look at the aftermarket. If a kit sells well, there is a lot of aftermarket items. And just look at how many were built online. We didn't see many F60 or RB6. The SF70H had a bit more, but in 2019 you could get it for under $50 on Amazon. The price is what it is because people aren't sure when they can get it so are panic buying.Tyrone wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 11:52 amThis isn't a nag or nitpick or anything. There would be for a while, but we're seeing F2001 at triple the price of what it was before too. Part of the reason they're getting money is because of what MFH has done to the market, but also the fact that you can't get modern kits of cars and the loss of Ferrari licensing by Tamiya has thrown off their catalog. Remember, when the RB6 kit came out, it had competition from Revell and Fujimi with many different cars at the time. It was a saturated market. If they had sold well, we would have seen an RB7 and SF71H like we saw a F2001 after the F2000. Prices in Japan for these kits is still quite reasonable.lezdep wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 12:35 pmBoth SF70H and RB6 are fetching big $$$ on ebay and even on Yahoo!Japan auctions. My core point is that just because they have a Mercedes AMG kit, doesn't mean they have access to the F1 side. There are a number of reasons they don't have access to it, and an F1 kit is a lot harder to license because of the sponsorship versus the essentially non-sponsored AMG GT3 for example. I'm not sure how what I said means that toys wouldn't existBMW wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 4:25 pmExcept that is not quite relevant.stubeck wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 9:05 am Mercedes in England and Mercedes in Germany are different companies and will have different licensing deals as well, its not a blanket deal to make any Mercedes car. Re: PLASTIC Upcoming F1 Releases 2021
Any thoughts of the impact die-cast market has on F1 kits? I looked at it once and did not like it.
