Meng 1/12 Ford GT40 MkII

Still very little details on this kit, but I thought it was odd that the info they ARE putting out mentions "pre-colored" and "snap-fit assembly".
I'm sure it's losing something in the translation.

Although I have the Trumpeter kit in the stash, I am hoping for something a little less controversial from Meng.

Well it could be something like the Bandai Star Wars kits. They are pre-coloured as well plus they are snap-fit. So something like that already exists.
I have 2 such kits (the PG Falcon and a Tie fighter) and have "built" my first kit (Tie fighter) in 3 decades by just sticking the parts together, because
I wanted to see how this works as a trial before. All I can say is the fit of the Bandai kit is excellent with no glue whatsoever. Not sure it will work
out quite like that when you apply a layer or more of paint before assembly...
If this is of similar quality and make-up, I'd say it is going to be a spectacular model. Pre-coloured meaning the parts are not painted, but the plastic
is already coloured accordingly. You just need to apply the decals. However, I would always recommend to actual spray paint the parts and then add
some weathering to them for depth and detail experience.

Actually on reading the box top left - "cement and paint not included" - that might just be a leftover. Has anyone ever done one of the other Meng
kits yet?

It does say the parts are going to be precolored and snap together. As long as the detail is great, I don’t care. At this point I am a likely buyer. Will wait and see though. Meng detail and quality has been really good so there is every reason to be excited about this kit. It looks like parts are going to be “precolored” vs painted. I actually think that is better than painted as we can primer and paint the way we like. They also said the early edition is precolored so latter there will probably be a version that is not for those that prefer to wait. I could end up falling into buy it now or wait category. I am fairly patient with these things and depending on what is going on I may not order immediately but I do want to do a Ken Miles GT-40. I would properly paint and finish it though.

As someone who has built many of Bandai's Star Wars kit, don't be afraid of the snap. The detail is excellent (on par or even better than Tamiya), they go together very nicely and are not "toy like" that we've seen with many other snap kits. The Bandai's are also pre-colored, and while the color is good, I still paint mine and it paints just like a regular model. One note for any potential Bandai builders - don't use lacquers or enamels as they are too hot and attack the plastic. I'm confident that Meng will do a good job with the snap kit. Can't wait to see it.

Mengs other snap fit kits are amazing, no worries there and just an FYI Tamiya has been coloring the plastic for years so no ground braking tech there. Sometime I think people are just looking to find something to complain about. Hell, let them release the kit. Lay your hands on it and then complain if something doesn't suit you.

I think pre-colored means pre-painted, it will be painted just like the H2R model. The prototype was shown in the SYNMC 2020, in Shanghai. After all it's just a prototype so there will be some defects.

I guess there will be 2 Version like Meng did of the Kawasaki H2R in 1/9.
There are a precolored version - means parts are painted and chrom plated - for ~ 100€ and a "normal" kit version for ~ 75€.
The Kawa-Kit is not so good like the military kits - for this large scale there are less and missing details.
Precolored parts are simple painted with color - not like bandai's star wars kits where the parts made with colored plastic.
i.E. the frame on the meng H2R is painted in green and after cutting out of the sprue you can see the black plastic on the cutting points - as well on the chrom plated parts...

Wrong: Meng pre-coloured kits are painted plastic parts and not parts made with coloured plastic -> check out the H2R from Meng, the kit is available as normal kit and as pre-coloured edition - its the normal kit with simple painted sprues...
Meng Snap-fit means - screws are used to stick the parts together -> check out the H2R - lots screws used...
