Painting Engine logo raised lettering

Post by tamiyasenna »

I am wondering if anyone can offer some tips on how to paint those raised letterings? It's ridiculously small even with the finest brush I can find. Attached is my attempt for the "Honda" lettering on a FW11. (The Fiberrite looks good because it's a decal)

Any tips on how to paint these tiny letters?

That is EASY! What you do is cover that area in bare metal foil, paint over it the lightly go over the raised area with sand paper: presto!

Thanks for the reply! Your picture looks perfect.
I didn't quite get how you did it though. So you put metal foil... and then paint over the metal foil??

Yes. Put some foil over the lettering, you'll have to burnish the edges around the letter edges. Prime then paint then I take a sanding stick and go over the tops of the areas to be silver. Paint sands off and there you are.

Same idea except instead for sanding the paint off, a good tightly wound Q-tip(or the really hard, pointy Tamiya swab) dipped in a little thinner will do the same thing without the risk of sanding through the BMF.

Agreed. I will try that way next time.
