It's not that big that you need a mini spray gun. I've painted the 1/12 Tamiya Ferrari F1-90 with the Tamiya HG-wide 0.5mm that I listed with no problem at all and there's plenty area to cover on the bodywork. Also as I mentioned, with the Sparmax I've painted full size car wheels. Personally I think a mini spray gun is overkill. It's like using a machine gun to shoot a blackbird...Noddy wrote:Mini spray gun not airbrush for this size project.

Mini spray guns are widely accepted as a better solution than air brushes for many projects not just lots of body area. Many people are able to achieve better results with them than with a small air brush but, hey, you keep doing you.

Re: Airbrush for large areas
But that was my point. The airbrushes I listed are not small 0.5mm tip in the Tamiya and 0.7mm in the Sparmax. Some of the mini spray guns have 0.5mm tips also. The problem with the mini guns is the air consumption. Not everyone possesses a compressor that can power one...Noddy wrote:Mini spray guns are widely accepted as a better solution than air brushes for many projects not just lots of body area. Re: Airbrush for large areas
I just ordered the GSI Creos Mr. Procon Boy LWA Trigger Type Airbrush, 0.5mm after reading all of the reviews. It was $118 shipped from Japan (free) from Amazon. Should be here in about 3 weeks. I'll give it a review when it arrives.
Again, thanks for the help.

Re: Airbrush for large areas
Well, I got the gun and have done a little painting with it. It's very well made and finished. It's single action unlike my Iwata but I don't find that to be a problem, With the fan tip it sprays a pattern about 2 inches high or wide with even paint and good control. It should be good for the bodywork of the Ferrari when I get to it!

Micro Mark sells a MicroLux pistol grip gravity feed airbrush with a .8 tip and up to a 2" pattern for $79.

That gun looks good too but it doesn't come with a fan tip and it costs another $14 to ship so the cost is about the same.
Re: Airbrush for large areas
Use a 0.4 - 0.5 nozzle

Yep, I'm using the 0.5 mm nozzle.
