March 751 - Brambilla - 1/20 by Chequered Flag

Post by Steffen_T »

Hi all,
it feels like an eternity since I have finished a F1 car.
Today I finally made it! Here is Vittorio Brambilla's first and only race win: Austria 1975.
The kit was made by "Chequered Flag" and was probably my hardest build yet. The kit itself was decent, but the rearsuspension with the radiators fixed to the rearwing support was really difficult to be adjusted. The main problem with this kit were the decals. Multicolored decals like 'Koni' were separated into three singlecolored decals that had to be placed on top of each other. White decals were printed in two layers, which unfortunatly had a visible offset. I ended up replacing all the standard decals (like Koni, Goodyear, Champion etc...) with decals I either found in my sparebox, or which had been available in Indycals sets for other cars. White areas were painted. The only original decals used were those related to Beta, the name "Vittorio", number 9 and the tiny March logos.

BIG, BIG THANKS GO TO ICON MODELER!
The kit came with a set of Icons rain tires that seemed to be a very early set. When Icon learnt I am building this car, he got in contact with me and sent me a replacement. Thank you very much!!! :D

Here is the result:

And here is the March next to Tom Pryce's Shadow DN5 from the same year:

It won't be my last 1975 car.

Nice work Steffen!! It looks great. Yes the tire included in this kit are very early hard resin cast tires that were made without the aid of vacuum or pressure so lots and lots of micro air bubbles. I felt it would be best for you to use a better more current set of tires for your build. I have this kit in my stash. One day I hope to do as well as you have with it.

Great job Steffen!

I have the 1975 First National City, which has the same rear.

Anyway, thanks for the inspiration... it looks great.
I hope I can do it even nearly as well as you!
Greetings Thomas

This looks great Steffen. Really nice! The Shadow is awesome too :D
I do have one question for you (or Derek):
Do Dereks tyres come with tyre logos/markings preprinted on them, or did you add those yourself?
Cheers
