Protar Ferrari T2 Restored!

Post by mazyen »

Hi,
Here's another one of my lock down build, or as as they call it here, "Enhanced Movement Control Order".
Its another restored Protar 1/12 kit that was originally build in the late 80s. The rubber tubing & tires had "bio- degraded" & melted the wheels & whatever it touches. The suspension linkages are mostly broken & replacements were scratch built. Decals are from Indycals. The tires were replaced with a set from my spare box that came from a M23 that was discarded decades ago. These old tires were "inflated" up with inserts cut from the rattle can plastic cap. Other than that, no new Tamiya parts were sacrificed.
It's restored as an out of box kerb side display as the interior, or the kit itself, is not accurate anyway. The amazing thing is that only 1 part is missing after all these years.
High res photos are here: - https://flic.kr/s/aHsmP5vCsz
Cheers
Lee

Excellent, love to see the survivors get their due, and restoration looks great! I see that you are bending down to secure that body work a bit, that's nice of you to help.

Car looks much nicer and I see you have Clay Regazzoni now driving it. I just watched the movie RUSH last week for the first time and good to see your machine looking better than the cars in the movie!

Nice job. I just got the Hasegawa T2 and the wings are in chrome. I don't believe that is correct but flat or shiny aluminim colour?

Thanks. The wings were de chromed with Chlorox, base coated & sprayed with some cheap enamel chrome paint available from the hardware shop. Then a couple coats of Johnson Klear was wiped on to protect it. Hope this helps.
