Tyrrell 003 - 1971 German GP - Ebbro 1/20
Hi everyone,
I finished up Ebbro's Tyrrell 003 with an hour left in 2016. I finished it in the specification and livery that Jackie Stewart drove to victory in the 1971 German Grand Prix. He stormed to a half-minute win over François Cevert in the Tyrrell 002.
Overall, the Ebbro kit was delightful. The Ebbro Cosworth DFV is a much easier build than Tamiya's, and the decal and spec options allowed my to put together the German GP version. It was not an option in the kit, but the extensive decal sheet had all the right logos to put this version together. the only thing I had to get from the spares box was the little red rectangle in the #2 roundel on the nose. It's sort of strange, it appears in some photos and videos of the race, but doesn't show up in others. Must be a lighting thing. Overall fit was excellent, just a little trouble with the rear wing mount. my favorite part of the kit was the one-piece, metal mounts for those mirrors - they saved a great deal of time and swearing! I used Tamiya TS-15 Blue for the bodywork and a mix of Alclads and Vallejo for the rest of the car. I had planned on doing a WIP, but I was enjoying the build so much that I forgot to take pictures along the way!
The Tyrrell with my other Ebbro build - the Rob Walker Lotus 49 from 1968. It's amazing the rate of development in aerodynamics in just 3 years!
As always, comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

Jake, I love the tires and wheels on your Tyrrell.
Are those decals or are the "Blue Lines" already on the tires? - Regardless, they look Great!
The car you built looks fantastic over-all!
Thank You for sharing, Kirk

Great job Jake !! Nice photography as well !
I just saw this car race in Austin at the USGP, October, in the vintage event.
I love that you finished this just at the turn of the year ! I was modeling into the new year as well ! Long may us "hard cores" run !!!!!!!
Best,
Steve Mohlenkamp

Nice build! The red rectangle is the sticker awarded after passing through scrutineering, so any photos at Germany with out are practice sessions before the race, Ceverts '71 sticker was on the opposite side of the white number circle. The '72 sticker was a blue triangle. There is writing on the sticker in German, but not sure what is says exactly.whatisdeletrazdoing wrote: the only thing I had to get from the spares box was the little red rectangle in the #2 roundel on the nose. AFAIK at all other races the sticker was put inside the cockpit.

Great subject choice, along with the Lotus 49 and 72 we have a lot to thank Ebbro for. You have made a lovely job here. I'm another who was sat at the model bench as the new year arrived.
