I can’t see why one commercial thread would lead into hurting one’s feelings and online bitching. I actually like the idea of silent auction, it should be obvious to everyone that buyer pays shipping and final sale prices are public within parties of the auction. Once the rules are agreed there’s nothing that hurts one’s feelings and to bitch about.

Yet a storm in a glass of water. I again support the classic "if it aint broken, don't try to fix it". Just as rules are, it works. And it allows to accept best offers.
If issue is maximizing sale price with the auction system, there are places to do so. Basicly I think you cannot make an auction among a group of friends, and that's what our community is.
Yes, investigating the proper price of stuff you wanna sell is a bit of work, but that's life.
If my experience is of any use, I'd suggest not giving more bother to people that makes this site roll.

I agree!
