Silent auction suggestions
Okay, this may be a bit weird but bare with me. I have a chunk of kits that I think it is time to move on. I know, I could put them up on eBay and take my chances but I am not thrilled with that idea. I would rather they go to someone who would truly appreciate them. Of course the other side of that is that I don't want to just give them away. I spent my hard earned money on them and it would be nice to at least get some of that back.
Here was my thought. A single bid, silent auction. Offer the item for sale(perhaps with a minimum, maybe not) and take one bid only from each bidder by private message. After a specified period of time, high bid wins. My thinking is that this eliminates a chunk of the competition normally seen on eBay. Lets the bidders give you their best offer first time only. Low ballers know they are not likely to get the item and won't waste your time, others can make an offer within their means. Final sale is between the seller and bidder only. No announcement of the final say price.
What do you think? Dumb idea or something that is worth trying.

I like it!! I gotta warn you though. From someone who has sold a lot of kits on here over the last 5-6 years. It's very hard to even come close to getting half your money back outta some of the kits I've sold. Food for thought. I would be very interested in the out come if you move forward.

Re: Silent auction suggestions
I like the idea a lot, not just as a buyer but also as a potential seller.

Re: Silent auction suggestions
It definitely sounds interesting!
I think that excludes really low bidders and you get what people think the kit is worth.
That doesn't have to be a bad thing for the kit, but some kits are more important to me than maybe others and that doesn't necessarily have to be related to the actual price.

Re: Silent auction suggestions
Only problem is.... F1M is not an auction site.
As far as i know, you have to add a price when selling.
Maybe the admins can confirm.

Re: Silent auction suggestions
Maybe we or better the admin can change this?
It's a very good idea. Good enough to give it a try for sure.

Re: Silent auction suggestions
OK, I´ll kinda be the Alfa, Ferrari, Renault or Ferrari (FIA biased) here and say also that if rules are what they are, why should Eric change it.
I am in for some flexibility (in fact I was about launching one of those "anyone interested in a bunch of 1/18 cars?") when that helps, sure. Though I think Pete can do what he wants even adjusting to the current rules. In fact, quite a few people have done this recently.
You list the kits as usual, giving a price for each or why not, a lot price. And then just say (if no one gets them) "I am open to listen to offers" and that's it
On the other hand -and not necessarily related to this case- I support the idea that sale prices remain visible (OK I know that this is at seller's will) so we have a good idea of current market prices. This latter is just a suggestion/beg. It really helps sometimes...
And now, what kits are?? we always hungry!

Re: Silent auction suggestions
Our site adiministrators are busy enough just maintaining this wonderful site now; this might be asking too much. Why not just search Ebay's Sold listings for the kits you have and base your asking prices on that. At least you won't have to pay their ridiculous fees and surcharges.
