"Peeling decals"
While browsing for decals on the internet, I've noticed that some are called "peeling decals". What does this mean? Are they literally stickers that are peeled off the sheet and stuck onto the model? If so, how does one adjust them? Or, are they like some tire decals that you peel off the protective layer, then put in place, then use water to loosen and remove the carrier? What is the purpose of this? Does it somehow help reduce "silvering"? There must be something I'm missing here.
Re: "Peeling decals"
As my grandma used to say: "paper admits everything", so words can mean lots of things, please link to an example, to see what it looks like. Your guess is as good as mine! Looks like the second option, similar to tyre "decals" a la Tamiya, or those "hi tech" that got trendy a few years ago, but disappeared, probably due to lack of durability.

Re: "Peeling decals"
Hi James. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to post a link. When it comes to the internet, I may as well have been raised in the wilderness by wolves The items I am referring to are made by Museum Collection, and I saw 3 different sheets. Lotus 97T for Fujimi, Lotus 79 for Hasegawa, and a sheet for Ferrari 641/2. The Ferrari sheet has a manufacturer number MC-D486. All of these sheets look exactly like a normal waterslide decal sheet, but are described as "peeling" or "separation" decals. The hobby stores referred in the listings are all either Chinese or Japanese, and even using the translator I can find no information as to how they work.
Re: "Peeling decals"
Typical Museum COllection style, but nothing to worry. After you have put them to the model you can strip that clear film on top once they have dried.
Take a stand!

Re: "Peeling decals"
Thanks gp. But what is the advantage or purpose of this system?
Re: "Peeling decals"
I honestly can`t say what kind of advantage it might be, i used them like normal decals, only difference was to peal of the clear film finaly.
Maybe it is a protection for the decals??

Re: "Peeling decals"
No clear film left? only the decal itself? If so it sounds nice. No clear decal to silver.

Re: "Peeling decals"
Well, no, not to missunderstand it, the decals are printed like other decals too, incl carrier clear, there is only an extra film on top which is also clear, this can be removed once the decal is fixed on the model!
Maybe to prefend scratches or sticking to the plastic bag, i don`t know.
Take a stand!

Bjorn, that is what I was desperately hoping for! Kinda like a decal upside-down cake.

Re: "Peeling decals"
I had recently dealt with so-called "positive rivets" and stumbled upon this method. Here is a video of how it works or is done.
