Protar Ferrari 156/85

Post by Shunter »

This is one I picked up a long time ago, I recall I picked it up very cheap. It had been started as you can see from the first images, it looks like it had been sprayed with an auto primer as it was a darkish grey and had etched the plastic.
I have sanded it down and primed, done this a few times trying to smooth out the surface, I should have gone for a primer/filler
So it’s now been primed with Tamiya pink and then I sprayed Tamiya LP21 Italian red.

nice to revive an old "primer bomb" kit. I will watch this come to life! Keep up the good work, it will be a nice piece on the shelf.

Nice progress so far.

The fit of the engine cover is not good on my kit. Also, the front wheel has the wrong diameter. It should be 13", the same as the rear rims.

Anyway, the finish model should look good.

There is a p/e stencil in the aftermarket for this model to spray the logo onto the radiators. Pretty sure there are replacement decals too if you need them.

Hi Shayne, it's beginning to look a lot like... no not Christmas  ... a Ferrari 156/85...
I love Protar kits, I've been asked many times, "But why???"... My answer is always the
same, because they're not a give me build, you have to work hard to get them to look
awesome. You have to take your skills and ingenuity to exceptional lengths. You've got
a bonus, making someone else's build start reach your standards, twice the fun!!!
Stick with it doing a grand job, good luck :D
I've always believed that you should never, ever give up and you should always keep fighting, even when there's only a slightest chance.

It´ll be great, Shayne. I have some suggestions...
the small plate where the flap of front wing can swing on, is faked in the kit as plastic protruding a hole in the red plastic. I suggest putting a real thin plate (even if a tad bigger) so it really overlaps the nose cone surface.
Then I´d also replace the front and rear wing endplates. Protar´s parts are quite thick.
Also be sure to check that overall wings widths are 41.6 62.5 mm respectively, makes not always respect the FIA rule book! 8)

I have started the decal work. I went with the Shunko sheet as it has all the markings for the incorrect and inappropriate sponsors, so far so good. I did a test with the Shunko logo to start and it shattered on me, this was a little concerning, but the others have gone well so far.
