Time consuming, but also very rewarding, building these wire wheels. Btw, when did you cut the spokes to size? Before or after installing? And what tool do you use for cutting? (I used a Tamiya side cutter on my 315S, but the hard spokes left little marks. I cut the spokes after installing, which then requires a thin/pointy tool, which limited the choice of tools...)

Cheers, Marcus
Hi Marcus,

Thanks.
I cut the remaining length of spokes row by row.
I use a small FACOM (ref:405.10) cutting pliers which is perfect for that job.
Prior to cut the extra length of spokes I ensure the installation and strength of the mounting by securing the spoke/pipe in the rim with light curing resin and UV torch.

Good evening,

Thanks guys!

And thank you to all the brave people who follow the assembly of the Beast of Monza!

Not a lot, but the 4 rims are mounted.
I took the opportunity to try the tires and the installation on the chassis.

Here are some pictures.

Good evening,

The hubs are finished, the threading of the wing nut is added after the splines.
The wing nuts are prepared and equipped with the female threaded part.
It is a turned aluminum part at the end of which is machined a hexagon which corresponds to the female imprint at the back of the wing nut.
I must admit that I find the assembly rather judicious and very simple.

Whenever building spoke wheels I wonder if I should leave them in the amazing metallic shine or paint them silver, as they really were. I always decided for the latter to have an authentic model, but I really accept the decision to a let them unpainted.

Hi,

Thank you. ;)

Most of the parts to be painted are now waiting for the primer layer.
They were first test fitted, then drilled to receive rivets and fasteners.
A sanding session followed before a clean-up with Teepol to avoid any greasy residue.
These are the “victims”.
