Even on a overcast day the STP flourescent day-glo red looked positively neon!
That´s one of the better "tests", it´s in gloomy conditions when fluo colors make the difference. OK, In sunlight they blaze, but also can a normal color, even if less.
But with limited light it´s where they say "I´m here", I remember that on the Ferraris at Cheste, when testing or the activity of Ferrari days stretched to late in the afternoon and sunset...
I know you bought my resin tires but for those following this build, and thinking of doing one, those kit tires are some of the worst I've ever used. You definitely want to go with my resin tires if you are doing this car or thinking of doing it. The kit tires are Goodyears and the car ran Firestones and the cheap vinyl turns gummy if you try to paint it.
Hi everyone!
Work continuing on the turbines. I did myself a disservice by building out of order. The chassis (and therefore suspension, interior, and engine) all rests inside the lower half of the body. So to build these efficiently, you should paint and decal the body first. And of course, I didn't do this and ended up taking a while to get to a real "build" stage.

Paint is on and WOW is it bright! Used Mr. Hobby Fluorescent Red per Michael from IndyCals' recommendation and it's perfect. It's so bright I found it difficult to paint as it was hard to tell what was covered and what wasn't. But overall I am pleased with it. It was my first experience airbrushing a body with Mr. Hobby lacquers and I really loved it. Very smooth and even. The fluorescent yellow gave me fits and ended up not being too great. But it's serviceable and I've decided to race-weather this car anyway.

Decals (from IndyCals) are all fitted to the Graham Hill car. As always, they were a treat to work with. They came with white doubles to make sure the red doesn't bleed through. And it doesn't in person. I think the camera and the bright light at my desk makes the bleed through way more visible in pictures.

I painted the chassis tub with a Tamiya military color I had laying around. The one on the left is the box stock version, while the one on the right is the detailed version. For the detailed version, cut off the master cylinders and whatever that box is and built some new, more detailed ones.

On Joe Leonard's final stop, Andy Granatelli held this sign saying "FIRST 3 PLACES HAVE 1 FULL LAP ON FIELD... MIGHT RAIN!" and I just loved it.

So I made a version of my own! Thankfully Granatelli and I have similar (bad) handwriting.
Both look fantastic! And I can only imagine what they look like in person. It’s so ironic that Andy G’s entries that were always so innovative (the screaming 4wd Novi’s, the 4wd turbines, the Lotus 4wd 64, etc) would fail, only for him to finally score his first, and Mario’s only Indy 500 win with such a bog standard car, the Brawner Hawk was essentially a Brabham copy with some Clint Brawner tweaking.
Thanks everyone for the positive comments! I really appreciate it.

With the bodies painted and cleared, I could finally merge the chassis and body and get some work done. The kit has been a pretty easy build up until this point. But the suspension, especially the front, was absolutely terrible! Things don't line up very well and several surfaces that should be flush didn't turn out that way. A lot of little sanding was required, which I didn't enjoy given I had already done the paint.

I spent a good deal of time detailing the rear of the Graham Hill car (on the left). Used a reservoir from the spares box and also added plenty of tubing around the turbine. I replaced the box stock springs with some springs off of a Tamiya 1/20 F1 kit. You can see the difference the detail has made when compared to the stock build on the right.
