1/12th Porsche 917/10

Post by daves »

I decided to take a break from the GTO wire wheels and start a new Porsche kit. This is the recently offered 917/10 from Christian Franke. I have build a couple of Christian's resin Porsche kits. All have been challenging and a lot of fun.
My first impressions of this 3d printed kit is that it is amazing. The detail is stunning. All the vents and louvers are clean and thin. Almost no flashing. Most of the parts will need some sanding to get them smooth for painting.
The decals from Michael at Scalegrafixx are very well done. I started with the wheels and tires to see how things fit and painted up. So far so good. Next I will start the sanding and hope everything fits.

Got a lot done on the 917/10 this week. This is the first 3d printed model I have worked on. I am impressed by the quality.
I will attempt to go over most of the areas that need work. The body needs a fair amount of sanding to get the two upper halves to fit correctly. I used super glue as a gap filler and then course sanding sticks.
The body is now finish painted with Tamiya pure white. I can already tell that to get the upper and lower fitted correctly will take some clamping after the application of super glue.
The cockpit is basic and needs some detailing. Seat belts of course. I went into my 935/934 spares box.Found a couple of clear warning lights and a lot of dash switches. The gauges in the dash sere just open holes. I found the clear gauge covers from a 935 kit. They fit perfectly so I could apply the decals over them.
I am so glad that Christian offered this kit. I will look great next to the MFH 917/30.

Worked a little on the 917/10 today. The body halfs fit much better than expected. I tip for future builders, the blower fan needs to be suspended with a plastic dowel from the lower half.
Cut and fit for the right height. Next will be the decals. My favorite part of the build.
