1/12 Brawn GP - 2009 Brazil - Custom Build
Hey all,
it's about time I posted another WIP here, hopefully one you'll find interesting.
As I make the switch from 1/20 kits to 1/12 i'm finding that there simply is not as much variety, which is understandable.
I have been selling of a lot of my unbuilt 1/20 kits and re-buying them in 1/12 if possible.
One of my favourite cars of all time is the 2009 Brawn GP car, I like the look of the car as well as the story behind it.
I have used some of the proceeds of my 1/20 sell-off to fund a new Elegoo Saturn, which is a Resin 3D printet, with a larger build area than my older Elegoo Mars.
This means I have been able to 3D print larger scale parts for the first time. It was simply impossible to print parts this large on the older printer.
The first part I printed on my new printer was the safety cell and the nose cone of the Brawn.

The print came out okay, but the rear of the crash structure is significantly warped, I think I put too much stress on that area when adding supports, so gravity and the suction of the printer screen has pulled it out of shape a bit.
Nothing some sandpaper and filler can't fix.

one of the wing mirrors came out warped as well, so i have printed out replacements for both sides.

The amount of support structures needed for the engine cover.

The engine cover and some additional parts being printed.
I have left the support structures in place on the front wing as it came out a little bit thinner than I anticipated so is fairly weak. I will add epoxy glue and tamiya putty to the weakest areas to strengthen them before cutting away the supports.

The details on the steering wheel came out really well.

The smoothing technique I used on the 3D model worked really well on the seat.

this is the parts all losely placed together. I imagine the fit will be better when I have sanded off a lot of the support nubs etc that are rubbing against each other.

You can see the rear edge of the floor, where I was a bit too ambitious with how thin I could get it, has warped. Again, a bit of putty, and some sandpaper will fix this up nicely.

The rear central bit of the floor, where the famous hole for the 'double diffuser' was, completly failed on the printer - I think the part was just too thin and complex. I will scratch build this bit, as it will need to have the gearbox attached securely anyway.

You can also see, oddly the top of one of the rear suspension wishbones just decided to not exist, so I have printed out a replacement part.
I have designed the wheel covers, to fit through a hole in the wheels, then into the wheel hub, this should allow the wheel to spin freely, whilst the cover stays unmoving as in the real car.
For obvious reasons this will be a curbside model.
The original model is from F1 2019. But I subdivded a lot of the surfaces to get a smoother overall shape.
I expect it will be a while before my next update on this one, as I have a few more projects closer to being finished that I would like to get done, before this one consumers my life.
I hope you find it interesting, any questions I will try my best to answer
Thanks for taking a look!

Looks great in first step. I hope everything fits well together once you've removed the whole support structure.
And it's nice that I was able to support you with the purchase of your printer...
That looks like a lot of fun in the near future!!

Phenomenal. It is remarkable what 3D printers can accomplish when combined with creative intelligence.

How much work did you have to do on the car to print it? I've always loved the FW25 which is also in F1 2019 and thought of using some of the FW24 decals I have to help with the decals.

Very impressing so far! Where did you get the datas for that car? Made on your own?
Take a stand!
