MFH 1/20 Ferrari 312 t2 1977 Dutch GP

Post by parklaneworks »

Last Christmas, I finally got a kit of the Ferrari 312 t2 1977! It has always been one of my favourite f1's and it looks very good. I was first thinking of buying the MFH 1:12, but when the scale 1:20 came out I managed to get one through Icaro Hobbies!

Some pictures of what is in the box:

No wiring was included, so I bought some wiring (MFH), hose joints (Top Studio) and braided line (Top Studio).

Reference material is also very handy as the instructions are not to detailed, no colors are mentioned; I found a JPEG of the 1/12 scale MFH 312 t2 ’77 ,I have the Joe Honda pictorial on this car, found several WIP’s on the internet and I have the instructions of the Hasegawa 312T. This should be enough to get going!

Started the kit at Christmas, began with cleaning metal parts in magnetic tumbler (with some liquid polish stuff) testfitting and then on to painting and building the engine and gearbox.

I also did front wing, starting with 800 grid (or 1000, can't remember exactly. After sanding, polished with a machine and finished with a layer of Tamiya metal primer.

Next up was the wiring

This is where I am now, wiring on the engine is finished. For the oil cooler I used Top Studio Braided line black 0.6mm and Top Studio Resin hose joints. The cooler was primed with Tamiya metal primer and for a semi gloss finish I used Alcad Semi gloss clearcoat.

I had no idea this kit even existed. Has Hiro secretly been releasing 1/20 s to go along with their 1/12 releases and not bothering to tell anyone? Seems like an odd business model.
Can we assume you'll be doing the Gilles Japan version?

They released this kit and the end of last year, only available at a Hobby show in Japan, if I remember correctly. As the show was cancelled, they held a sale of various models at their own factory. What was stille available after this could be ordered internationally.

As I am Dutch I will be doing the Dutch GP version. Niki Lauda won that GrandPrix
