1/12 Ferrari 312 B3 1974 MG Model Plus

Post by ferrarissimus »

The Ferrari 312 B3 1974 represents the beginning of a successful period for Ferrari in Formula 1 from 1974 until 1979.
Unfortunately there is no really nice model in scale 1/12.
The only kit in this scale was produced by the italian manufacturer MG Model Plus many years ago.
This company was the only one making Ferrari kits in big scale, when Tamiya stopped their big scale series.
That was the reason for me to buy all Ferrari kits from them. But until now I built only the F399 from 1999, the 156/85 and the 375 MM Carrera Panamericana. When MFH released 1/12 Ferraris I stopped building MG Model Plus kits, because the japanese kits were worlds better. My 250 Testarossa is painted but unfinished.
Ferrari D50, 156 Sharknose, 126 CK, 330 P4, 312 PB, and 250 Testarossa are double releases from both manufacturers. That's why I never will build these MG kits, the many others wait for a later MFH release in the attic.
Because the 312 B3 1974 is one of the most beautiful Ferrari cars and I want to complete the B3 cars, I am going to start this MG Model Plus kit and make a WIP that I fear will get more a Scratchbuild topic.

Here is the kit:

Resin parts are from nice shape. The Lauda wing is broken, but I will build the Regazzoni car, winner in German GP.

The chassis is simple and needs a lot of improvement.

The motor-gearbox unit is a joke. It is a very simple and bad copy of the Tamiya 312 B.

The front suspension and the attachment is unusable.

I to have a couple of MG kits that will likely not get built due to the poor quality . It will be interesting to watch and see what you can do with this. Good challenge ahead of you. Have fun!

]Alu sheets for the chassis are cut from 0,2 mm all sheet.
DSCN5114.JPG[/attachment The MG PE part is used to level the step at the chassis top. I The rivet distances are too narrow und not 100% correct. [attachment=3]DSCN5114.JPG
The scratch alu part will be put over this PE sheet. So you get a nice deepness to the fuel inlet. The alu sheets are only provisionally fixed.
