Re: Leyton House CG 901B
Well, it's been a while! Lots of distractions put this project on the back burner for a bit, but I finally got back into it recently. I had some issues with ejection pin marks that had been filled, primed and painted, reappearing again.
I filled them with some additional putty and sanded them smooth. I decided the decals would probably cover OK without further paint. I used bare metal foil to cover the heat shield areas of the floor pan.

Re: Leyton House CG 901B
Now came the tedious work of covering the entire floor pan in carbon fiber decals. The Studio 27 stuff worked well again, but they made some strange choices on what was included and what was left out. There were decals for most of the area around the engine, and they were very well done, but no decals were provided for the inner edges of the side lips that mate with the outer bodywork. There were decals for the outer edges of those side lips, and for the fins and rear edge of the diffuser, but nothing for the floor areas of the diffuser. I spent a lot of time making templates from Tamiya tape and cutting out Scale Motorsports CF decals. I decided to do the whole underside, and those were pretty big decals!
I shot a couple coats of Scale Finishes Matt Clear over everything, after masking the bare metal foil areas with Parafilm (very low tack so it wouldn't pull up the foil).

Great stuff. Wonderfull detailing.
Just seeing this WIP for the first time. Will the finished build be making an appearance at Heritagecon 2021 - yes a great show in a great setting especially for aircraft enthusiasts.
Regards,
Mike

Re: Leyton House CG 901B
Mike, I went to my first Heritagecon last year, had a great time, won some trophies, and bought this kit there! For sure, I'll be back.

Thomas, thanks for the kind words. We visited Munich in 2017 when I got my new BMW M2, and had a wonderful time.

Re: Leyton House CG 901B
I got some work done on the nose piece. I had painted it in the base color, and tried to use the Studio 27 decal for the green, but the decal wouldn't wrap around the front and started breaking up. I gave up, and removed it while I still could. I mixed up some paint to match the BP green, masked the nose and shot the green. Then I noticed that there was a thin black line on the rear edge of the green area. I thought about how to do that, and after some research, I found a sheet of black line decals in various widths - I think I got them from Megahobby. There was a separate yellow BP decal for the nose, so I used that as well. At this point, it needs some clearcoat and it will be done.
