Well, it's been longer than I'd like, but I'm still chipping away at this project when time permits. Here's a small update of my most recent progress. I drilled some small holes and made U-shaped wires to hold the ignition wiring to the front of the engine, just to keep things in position. I used CA to glue the wires in place, and touched up the area with Model Master semi-gloss black.

I finally got the tub polished out and touched-up, so it's ready to receive the seat assembly, after which I'll glue it to the floor pan. I still have to drill a couple of holes for the ignition wires to go into the rear of the tub.

I also filled-in, sanded and primed the ejection pin marks inside the rear bodywork, and brush-painted it with Model Master black chrome, my favorite matt black. When I use up this bottle, it's gone forever - I will miss this stuff.

Very good work!

I think the Tamiya LP-3 is also a nice matte black.
But you're right, the Model Master colors are in a class of their own :D

Ah, yes, my favorite part of a building project. This is where I start to put the subassemblies together, and nothing quite fits. I did a trial fit of the tub onto the floor pan, and discovered that one of the wire loops I had added to hold the ignition wires was interfering with the rear of the tub. I had to grind some material off to make clearance. I also realized that there was no room for routing the wires, and you can't really see them between the engine and the tub, so I just cut them off.

Then I trial-fitted the seat into the tub, and discovered that it protruded from the bottom, even when pushed up into the tub as far as possible, so that the tub wouldn't sit down properly on the floor pan. The solution was to file away some material from the upper edges of the seat on both sides, and grind off some material from the seat bottom. It looks like this will allow the tub to fit properly to the floor pan.

I decided to try again with the decals for the green area of the upper body. They went down pretty well, but will require some touch-up.

Sometimes just rough tools help to make it fit...

It looks good and I hope you don't get any further problems.
Doing things like this after painting is sometimes a little dangerous!

I made some progress on the touch-up of the upper body shell. I masked off the area around the green decals, and masked over the yellow BP emblems, then shot some BP green that I custom mixed from some old MCW paint. In retrospect, it probably would have been easier to just paint the green. The edges where it was masked will need a little light sanding, but I think it will look fine under a few coats of clear. I still have other decals to add before I can do the clear coats.
