1/12 Tamiya Williams FW14B
When you start building one of these 90's Tamiya kits to go full detail with it, you certainly get a new appreciation for how much effort the guys that have done it before you have put in. Kudos to you guys! You put in the usual hours of research and then start actually prepping the parts... then start to see the mountain of work ahead.
I will be using the parts available from Thunder Valley, except for the brake set and metal parts. Also, several items from RB Motion, Top Studio and Tuner Model Manufactory.
The drilling of holes for fittings has begun.
Three hours spent on just the engine cover sanding mold lines, filling screw holes, and drilling new ones. Tamiya didn't mark all the fastener holes that are in the real cars cover so you have to add some holes. A lot of work to do inside the cover filling pin marks.
The white part has to be molded into the main monocoque. You can see putty in various places to smooth out sink marks. These 90's kits show their age.
Filling various pin marks in every wing and chassis part.

I won't be displaying with the wheels off, so I'm just detailing the kit brake disc and calipers with fittings. I smoothed the joint where the halves go together and cleaned up the holes.
Placing the body parts together and sanding across the joints makes for a more precision fitment.

Great start. I always regret not buying this kit, got the McLaren mp4/6 but never this one. Look forward to watching your progress. Which paints will you be using for the main body colours?

I will be using the Zero Paints set. I did a spoon test and I like the colors. The blue looks a bit milky in the bottle, but once sprayed it gets very vibrant.

Very nice. I always wanted to build this one but am needing the space more at this point so I am about to sell my copy. I will be watching this one though, as I do love this era of F1 and still hope to build this or the MP4/6 one day.
