This a a beautiful model Giovanni, and I am sure it is thoroughly deserving of your win. Congratulations!
I am not familiar with MG models but by all accounts they are not easy, which makes it even more deserving.
Cheers. Tim

Hi Giovanni,
congratulations to your beautiful 500 F2. You made nice details at the motor and a perfect painting job.

I own this MG kit since about 20 years, but never built it due to the ugly out of scale tires and for a 1/12 scale model unworthy photo etched spokes.
F1 cars are mainly characterized by their wheels, but these MG bulky tires with their phantasy pattern tend to destroy the car's sleek lines. If you compare the wheels with the MFH Ferrari D 50 which is about the same period, you know what I mean.
In the "dark time" of 1/12 F1 kits, I mean the period between years, when Tamiya stopped their 1/12 series and MFH started in this scale, I bought all kits from MG Model Plus but only built the 375 Carrera Panamaricana, 250 Testa Rossa, F1/ 99 and 2000 and the 156/85 and 312 B3, which is just in progress. The 375 and the Testa Rossa got self-made turned spoke wheels.

The great effort to bring the Testa Rossa, 156/85 and 312 F3 to an acceptable look was not paid, when MFH later on released exact these kits. In future I wait for better MFH kits, and about 10 MG kits are for the garbage. I banned these kits since years to the attic, cause 6 of them segregate a horrible and toxic smell, they didn't lose over many years.

Please understand me right, this is not against you and your 500 F2. You made the best of this kit and it is really worth for the award.
But in my opinion there is a mistake: You interchanged front and rear rims. Rear rims are spoked in one line in the middle and front rims are spoked in two lines outer and middle .

Best regards ferrarissimus

Hi Ferrarrissimus,
sorry for the delay in replying, but i was traveling for work.
Thank you, first of all, for the compliments on my Ferrari 500 F2; made by someone like you who knows MG Model kits are worth double!
As for the wheels, rims and tires supplied with the kit are unpresentable and, for this reason, I replaced them.
The rims have been replaced with those produced years ago by Meri Kit, an Italian manufacturer of 1/43 scale accessories and kits.
Both the spokes and the rims are made in brass and, in my opinion, I could not find better in 1/12 scale; I have not counted the rows of spokes and I have not made a mistake in mounting the wheels, also because the wider (big) rims are for the rear wheels and the smaller (narrower) ones are for the front ones.
They will probably not fully reflect the rows of spokes present on the original rims, but they render the shape and texture of the Borrani rims used by Ferrari very well at that time.
The tires were replaced with others that my friend Stefano Iori, owner of Matilde Model, a small Italian manufacturer of 1/12 scale kits, kindly gave me as soon as he learned that I was working on the construction of the 500 F2.
These new tires have the correct dimensions and, above all, the shape of the shoulder of the tire is perfect; those supplied by MG have a very imaginative tread pattern and a completely wrong shape.
Thanks again, regards,
Giovanni La Rosa
