1/20 Fujimi Lotus 97T
I'm breaking one of my personal rules and building two kits at the same time. My rationale is that at my current build rate of one every 2 years I will not finish my stash. Second I'm building the MFH Ferrari 126/C2 at 1/12 scale so the parts can't get mixed up. Also when one project is drying I can work on the other.
At any rate the 97T may be my favorite F1 car of all time due to the fact that I remember this car at Monaco and it has all the elements and driver that make it raw with a savage turbo, and uniquely 80's in design with the short wheel base and cockpit forward design. The aerodynamics of the car is simple and relied on turbo power to push the inefficient wings with ridiculous down force. All very excessive and crazy for a decade that had a lot of excess.
Today those days seemed like a simpler time and F1 was a lot more fun to watch.

Great kit!
Are you gonna build the kit with engine details or kerbside?
Because I've heard the engine cover fit is pretty tight...
Good luck
Cheers, Martijn

I was going to just do curbside but forgot that I also purchased some AcuStion PE sheets and wheels for this car so I will be doing some small detailing. I hope the cover doesn't fight me too badly as I want to display the car with the cowling on.Schumi wrote:Great kit!

Started with the engine. A little priming with fine grey Tamiya rattle can.
Then I sprayed the block with Mr Color SM06 and the transaxle with Tamiya black semi-gloss.

Glued the halves together and did some more studying of the AcuStion PE sheet. There are some areas of the plastic kit that are replaced with metal.

On the PE sheet are two versions of the Renault valve cover. Since this is the Portuguese car I have to use the Gordini valve cover.

Painted the plastic valve cover with silver and made sure to add masked areas for glue adhesion. Painted the spark plug wires and cap with Tamyia yellow.
Then scraped away the paint so glue will stick to the plastic.
Finished result. Not too bad of a result considering its molded plastic and not an actual wire.

Next step is to replace the plastic oil cooler with the PE one. This particular piece was difficult to make. The cooling fins are fragile and bend easily and it is very hard to see the holes to attach them. It would have been easier to assemble if it was made in layers like a Dutch pastry.

Thanks Jordan!
Below is a test fit of the metal oil cooler. The colors are not finished and some detailing remains.
