Fluo or bright red?

Post by eyckles »

Hi guys,

I have a question. I’m currently building the Studio27 1980 Alfa Romeo 179. I’m allmost to the point where i can spray some color, but don’t know which red it is. Italeri’s manual says TS49 bright red and Tameo’s manual says fluo red. Fluo red looks much better, because compared to a Ferrari the color is much lighter. Any idea’s? Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Lesley

If it is the Marlin boron version, then it should be fluro red.
You can see the color on the surviving car

The wikipedia car is a restored one, even without the original lvery.
Never mind.
FLUO, FLUO, FLUO, FLUO, FLUO, FLUO, FLUO, !!!!!!!

And not too dark. Same as McLarens at that moment.
TS49 is definitely NOT fluo.
To make yourself a visual idea, any Minichamps McLaren or Penske will match what you need.
Look the difference in this Schelegelmilch pic, between Marlin Alfas and Macs with the red of Ferrari and Ensign. Look there are more nice pics!

I think the 79 and 80 cars were red (TS49) while 81 - 83 were fluo. Avoid TS 36 at all costs, it cracks over time.

That Mclaren tailing the pack looks fluo. The Alfa certainly isn't the same shade as the Ferrari, but it's not the same shade as that Mac, either. A pic of the 2 next to one another would be helpful. In this example, you see the chevron is brighter than the car. Me personally, if I were painting this model, I would use TS49 for the car and TS8 for Bruno helmet. Having said all that, the one sad fact is pictures from that era are all quite misleading as photographic equipment and printing tended not to capture the true vibrance or the right shade. Ligiers were not sky blue. And when I saw the Mclaren and Alfa in Long Beach in 1983, they scarred my retinas, they were so bright. Brighter than I had seen on tv or in any print.

Well, if you want, you can paint it TS-78*
If JamesB and my own suggestions of looking at the official cars and looking at the official models are not good enough, then I don't know what can help.

*= I don't know what color the TS-78 is... :D

I would trust Luca Tameo over Italeri/Protar 100% of the time.
