Converting datas to stl for 3D printing

Post by gp-models »

As i was searching for a solution to transfer some types of datas into stl datas, i stumbled over this webside which offers many solutions for different types of datas.
Does anyone know something about this side? trustable or not? Problems with datas after converting them?
It`s a freeware, not sure if it is the best way, anyone with experience around?

In order to have a quick solution, I have used it sometimes. But it is always better with a real 3D software like Fusion, FreeCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, ... Sometimes the page cannot convert the data correctly, gives an error message or the data sets are simply too big! Certainly feasible for small, simple parts.

What exactly do you want to convert - which format is called?

Thank you for quick reply Thomas, i`m looking for some stp, step and sldprt datas to be converted.
Some are not realy big, so i give it a try on those but i also think that a better solution has to be chosen finaly. I thought about Fusion360 as CAD software, i also have FreeCAD but i don`t like it realy much

Another dump question i have, is a step file better then a sldprt file or is there no difference in between them finaly?

You can load step/stp in FreeCAD, go to Mesh and convert the Mesh data from the solid.
Look at this here...

Sldprt should be able to be opened with Fusion 360 and then again export as mesh or export as stp and then convert back to FreeCAD...

It's the home data file from SolidWorks. STP or STEP is more a standard file (Standard for the exchange of product model data or "Standard für den Austausch von Produktdaten") for an exchange of 3D Model data.

I gave AnyConverter a try but have to say it does not work. It took 10 minutes to upload the file and convert it, at the end i got an error message. :?

Now i have a new problem with prt files, can anyone help to convert it to stl? I found no solution, seems to be no common file type.
Next is a problem with freeCad, it allways crashes when i try to export the file, works only one time a day, afterwards it crashes all the time. Anyone else with that problem?

I can do it for you, netfabb 2019 is able to read prt.files and save them back to stl.files.
