FIA rules for 1991

Post by gp-models »

Looking for some more informations to the FIA rules for the 1991 season, as far as i remember the cars had a maximum width of 200cm in total. Do i remember right cause i can`t find that information anymore, but i think to remember that the late 80ths and early 90ths have been limited to that width.
If anyone has further informations it would be great if he can post about it!

1993
Rear tyre width reduced from 18 inches (457 mm) to 15 inches (381 mm) to reduce the grip and so the speed of the cars, overall car width reduced from 220 cm to 200 cm. Rear wing height reduced from 100 cm to 90 cm, distance of front end plates from flat bottom increased from 25 to 40 mm (0.98 to 1.57 in),[37] head rest area increased from 80 to 400 cm2 (12 to 62 in2). Continuously variable transmission (CVT) banned before ever appearing at a race.[38] End of race crowd control measures implemented, 50 km/h speed lane restriction during free practice. Fuel used restricted to that available to the general public.[39] Drivers limited to 12 laps each in both qualifying sessions;[40] maximum number of cars on the grid set at 25 cars (later increased to 26 from German Grand Prix onwards)

Still 215cm as rule maximum. Cars usually got close to that, so it may be taken almost as a fixed amount. I mean, rarely they’d get under the mentioned 212 or so. It’s easy to calculate from good front and rear pics as wings were 150 and 100 “yes or yes”.
Only important change was rear overhang, reduced from 60 to 50!!! Cm

Thank your for your input MPK, i could not any real dimensions of any car at that year, only the basic lenght between the front and rear axle, front axle width and rear axle width, but still miss the overall sizes.
Maybe i can calculate the width when using the axle widht plus tyre width, but i can`t find the right tyre size on the front. Totaly frustrating!
Does anyone have the tyre size for the front that year? Last option would be the width of the front wing which was reduced to 140cm that year and measure the tyre, but i prefer some real datas if anyone has some.

Thank`s James, i know that some seems to be less wide, but how much would be interesting. I Mean there are a lot of datas around about that cars, but try to find the real length or width, close to impossible to find something! I Realy wonder about that as there is allmost everything around, which clutch, which brakes and so on. I will use the width of front wing or the width between the axles if there is no one able to help finaly.
