New 3D printer for 1/12 and larger.
New 3D printer for 1/12 and larger.
Phrozen have just announced a new, massive printer. 15" screen. 8K resolution. $1600.
https://phrozen3d.com/pages/sonic-mega-8k-preorder
It'll print slightly smaller than a legal size sheet, at the same resolution as the Photon/Mars. So 1/12 projects should be easily attainable - a 1/12 F1 body should fit in one piece, while LMP cars fir width-wise but are slightly too long, so you'd need to split off the engine cover - and even 1/20 and 1/24 will easily print in one piece.
Pretty exciting news. It's bigger, better, faster and $1000 cheaper than the existing mega-format printers. The only problem is that it will absolutely devour resin with a build vat that size. Still, I'm VERY tempted to trade in my Mighty... Actually, given my printing requirements, I could probably get rid of my CR-10 as well.

Je ne regrette rien.

All this 3D printer news, I have a CR-X I was given that I need to fix, and by the time I get it up and running, it will likely be largely irrelevant with the new printers out there!

I am very happy with the Elegoo Saturn printer.
You have to split the body that's right.
But the printer only cost 380€ instead of 1800€ the Sonic did. And a new display is only 150€. Think the Sonic is much more expensive.
But the technology is moving on. That's great.

With a little more effort, a lot is already possible on the Elegoo Mars. But I think the size of Saturn should be enough to start with. And price-line are definitely more than ok here.
But I also watch the market and I think it's great how and, above all, how quickly everything is developing.

it is good news without a doubt. The only problem for me is the decals. We are always limited to what is on the market. if i want to print a williams fw37 i can do it but i don't have decals

But there are various decal manufacturers who offer a self-service, such as Indycals. You should only know how to use the relevant software.

Pattos Place has the decals for the car. They're not the cheapest, but it will work for what you need.
Re: New 3D printer for 1/12 and larger.
The cool thing about the Mega, though, is that it'll print an F1 body flat, in one piece, so you don't have to mess around with splitting and repairing seams. You can do an MFH-style casting from it. So designing for print is a lot easier, as is construction.
AND it makes 1/8 and 1/6 kits feasible. Again, looking at an MFH-style breakdown, you'd be able to scale any of their kits up and STILL print all the parts in one piece, by playing with the orientation.

Re: New 3D printer for 1/12 and larger.
Yeah, that are great times for a modeller.
I will sit down and wait until there are more big resin printers availble and the prices are going down.
Just bought a Elegoo Mars 2 Pro for 118€.Will only use them for clear parts printing.
Dont have to clean the tank from the Saturn everytime i want to print something clear.
Thats crazy!
