Clearing chrome decals

Post by eyckles »

Hi guys,

I’m currently building a Studio27 Lotus 87. As you now there are some chrome decals on the sidepods. Can these be cleared after application with 2k clear? Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Lesley

I suggest to check with the non used number. It's chrome too, right? Or is it JPS color?

If it´s a full ESSEX version, then yes. But if it's the JPS/ESSEX mix version of spanish GP, then numbers will probably be cream... :(

Not sure about the S27 decals but I've built the MFH 88 and painted the chrome because the decals/stickers were a bit thick. But I think your livery is more complicated. But you can clearcoat the chrome but it could end up a little milky!?

I don't know how to do it right either, but I've made the mistake a few times in the past and provided chrome-painted areas with clear varnish and these have also become dull or milky!

How it works with the chrome decals is a very good question.
Have you already been able to test it on a leftover piece?
Greetings Thomas

Thanks for all your reply’s. The model is the Essex/JPS. I took a closer look at the decals today. Unfortunately the chrome decals ere cracked, so going to apply Alclad Chrome first and place the decals and clear with 2k diamond clear from Zero. This is the best option i think

Lesley, that´s one of my "always pending to be done" cars. I have the bodywork, gently giftes by our fellow Jacques 8) and just needing some suspensions, wheels and.... decals!
Maybe you can give me a nice scan and I can do decals for you. Yes, chrome too! 8)
