Shipping costs from Italy

Post by daniel »

A question to my italian modeling friends.

What would be the shipping cost from italy to germany for a 1/12 kit incl. tracking and insurance. I got an offer for either around 99 and 125 and I think that ridiculously high !?

Thanks

I know from my kit supplier (DDP Models) that especially insurance makes it very expensive...

Hi Daniel,
I checked on-line Poste Italiane shipping service, I get a 40-45€ offer for 3/4 days delivery from Italy to Germany with tracking and insurance (considering 100x40x15 cm parcel and 200€ value).
Maybe different international curriers are more expensive???

I hope this helps,
ciao,
Pierluigi

That seems more accurate. I just shipped from NY to Holland and it was $28. As an aside I paid for first class and it only took 4 days.

I've recently (January 2021) sent a box with a LEGO Baby Yoda and some drawings of mine to the UK which is now zone 2 for DHL (NON-EU / Switzerland). That package has cost me 27 € since the package was just a single centimeter over the boundary limits for the "M" type package (2 kg, where the added total of single length + width + height has to be less than or equal to 90 cm total) - weight wasn't the issue. So it was classified with DHL as a 5 kg package (max 120x60x60 cm, max 5 kg).
Depending on what kind of kit this is it could be within that same bracket, i.e. typical MFH kit (never weighed those with all the WM stuff). I think even the old large Tamiya 1/12 boxes (think 910, etc.) should be covered by that 5kg package. Add 14 € for added insurance up to 1000 € or double that for 2000 € coverage, so a grand total of 41 € for the UK. For Italy it should be 30 € (from DE to IT using DHL), so to me 100 € for the reverse direction seems excessive. For that kind of money you can order from the US - which has horrendous shipping costs, which is why I gave up looking for things from there :(. I'd rather go HK since they can get kits to me for less :S
Cheers,
Roman

Hi Daniel,
I can ship a 1/12 kit to germany by DHL for about euro 40. In case you want to buy something from me I usually make a price shipping included.

Thanks guys. It was about a dispute an ebay and a "broken" kit that had to be sent back. But thanks to ebay and absolutely no safety for sellers I just lost a Protar MP 4/2 1/12. But what the hell ...it will be rereleased soon so everything is fine. I hope the guy who has it now feels better. Only sad thing is that I will never ever send ebay-items to my modeling buddies in italy. You won't believe what I have experienced so far and what happened to parcels I've send.

Lately I've also learned to always track shipments and book insurance if necessary.
It is just amazing what is currently happening with the parcels due to the high parcel density and the many shipments.
