"ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN AND IT USUALLY DOES..." RIP GREAT MURRAY WALKER!

Post by JamesB »

Sad, sad, news...
https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/3105 ... es-aged-97
From time to time, I read about Murray abd thought Hell, he gotta be really old.
ALmost 100 (97) years of humanity. For many years, I read abut his comments on GPI and Autosport, but I, as a spaniard, had not the oportunity to hear his broadcastings... unless I am very mistaken! and the thing happened: I spent the best part of a year working and living in the UK, so the oportunity came. One of the better things of that foray, besides the Cheddar, the indian food, the big beers, some good company and a visit to Donnington Park, was enjoying the ITV broadcats they had just hired Murray. And yes, it was as they said... or better!!
He'll be missed no doubt. Race and narrate in peace!

My first real exposure to F1 was in the mid '80s. Living in the Detroit, Michigan area, I was lucky enough to get the BBC feed on CBC from Windsor, Canada. Murray Walker and James Hunt, and glorious cars. Worth getting up for at ungodly hours, as there was no rebroadcast in those days. Sad to see both of them gone now.

A true icon of the sport has passed. As well as his F1 commentary, he was a also great fan of the GP bikes, I have a several DVD's of Moto GP races from the eighties, and his enthusiasm for the sport really shines through. His call of the 1983 title deciding San Marino GP at Imola is tremendous.

I started to watch F1 on CBC in 1993, a re-broadcast of BBC feed. I was attracted by Murray's commentary.

He's a real legend in motorsport, especially in F1.

I remember when living in the UK I watched F1 on BBC with Murray commentating together with James Hunt. Murray was always so agitated that one thought the race was the most exciting ever even though in 1991 and 1992 Mansell steamrolled many of the races so it really was boring.
It's always sad when someone dies, but being philosophical about it he reached a good age and filled all those years with life and exitement. R.I.P.
