Sad news. I don't know Mr King in person, but saw his masterpiece in 2002 Tamiya/Con, the Porsche Spyder LMP conversion and was wow!! Mr King won the top award at 2002 Tamiya/Con as Master Modeler. His Porsche is now on display in Tamiya HQ museum I believe.

Here is the pic I took when I went to Tamiya HQ in 2006.

Very sad news.
Did not know the person, but did know his masterpieces he created. Most impressive was his scratchbuilding work he did. Create something from nothing. That kept me going with my first scratch build.
A truly inspiration for all modelers.

RIP Mr. King

If my memory serves me that "Porsche LMP" was a fantasy build by Dale and the base kit used was the Toyota TS020, WOW!!

I will most assuredly miss Dale. The time I spent with him at our "Tamiya" club meetings and dinners before will always be treasured. His builds were always special, even the ones that were just for fun. I was looking for a photo I had of one of his builds that used motorcycle rims and tires and an F1 body. It was a club group build. Tamiya use to clear out it's parts room from time to time and gave us the incomplete kits. The group build was to use those parts to create something unique. That model was build to his usual standards even though it was just junk parts.

Like Derek, I was shocked to hear of his passing. Last time I saw him was our club lunch at the Lazy Dog. He rode up and back with me and he had his health issues but was still in great spirits. No indication that that would be the last time I saw him.

Derek, you are spot on about the Porsche LMP. I remember it well. Piece well deserving of a place in the Tamiya museum.

As soon as I saw the thread title...my heart started pounding. Thank You Dale for your help, kindness and your little gifts over the years. Until I saw his photo in the 90's, I never realized I had met him in person a few times. Bosco...Rosco? ran the hobby shop in Mini City. Right as the $20 1/43rd Starter kits were coming in every week, many would show up to see the new shapes and incredible decals. I saw him a few times but didn't really talk much. Everyone was in awe of the new scale models. It was the GPMA forum where I first saw his work and where I first connected his face and his talent. RIP Dale, quite the human!

You are very close Jack, your memory serves you well. It was Bosco at Prestige Hobbies in Hobby City. Hobby City is still there but the Hobby shop turned to selling mostly diecast and has long since died.
