1/43 kit suggestions..
hi, im really new to this forum, but since finding it have visited many times each day. I orginally came here hoping it to be a diecast website, as i have a small collection of Onyx, Minichamps 1/43rd models etc. i use to make a few kits when younger, and have always been curious about white metal kits(though i wouldnt call myself a good modeller, though ive never really tried).
can someone suggest some brands for me to look out for? im particularly interested in mid 70s to current f1 cars, with a special interest in the lower teams (that may not even be modelled in diecast form). im aware of tameo and meri models and thats about it.
can people also direct me where to get these from, especially cheaper models (as im a bit worried about these high prices).
im in australia also, if that helps.
thanks!

RE: 1/43 kit suggestions..
Hi,
Tameo is usually the best way to go - the newer kits are substantially better, but the old ones can be built up quite nicely.
BBR is also good...
http://www.tameokits.com should have a list of vendors...

I agree, Tameo has the best kits for your money. They are very well engineered and the instructions are also the best.f1m wrote:

Hi phaffas,
A couple of years ago I would have said SRC or Tameo for someone trying 1/43rd. SRC are easy to build with little photo etch and Tameo have a good range and quality. Meri have produced some nice superkits, but a lot of their standard kits are a little dated these days.
SRC are now hard to get hold of and have gone up in price, so we are really only left with Tameo for beginners.
Tameo kits have developed over the last 20 years; the older kits are therefore 20 years old and a lot cruder than the more modern kits. They are cheap, but it is worth looking a bit higher up the list, roughly TMK200 upwards for first kits.
Kits in the TMK200-300 band are reasonably priced, have two sets of decals in case of mistakes, good detail, photo etch details and wing plates.
There are two cars that I usually point people towards, the Lotus 91 and the Williams FW07.
There are two versions of the 91, the one with the engine cover off has an engine to build, and the other is the 1982 Austrian GP Winning car. This would be a good choice, one color paint job, two sets of decals.
The other kits are the FW07, The original kit TMK304 depicts the 1979 British GP winning car, (was that Williams first ??). But there are also four of the 1980 private entrant’s cars available.
All the kits are generally the same, single paint color scheme, two sets of decals, curbside.
But the Williams is also be built in sub-assemblies and then brought together at the end.
The rear end of the car with the wing is one assembly. The bottom half of the chassis, front wings and cockpit is a second and the main body the third.
All these kits have a known fixed point for the suspension, so getting the ride height correct is easy.
These kits are also reasonably priced ranging from about 67-80 Australian dollars delivered.
If you need any advice on any kit that has caught your eye let the group know and I’m sure someone will have some experience of it.

Hi Phaffas,
I´m one of these specialists in 43rd scale modelling. And I´ll agree to the others, that Tameo and Silverline are the most valuable kits in these segment of modelling - they have also the largest and most interesting production line for these F1 cars. With a little experience you´ll get very good results, which are a lot better than these diecasts. My experience is well and made over a few years of modelling and collecting. If there are any more question, feel free to message me.
Actual projects of mine were the McLaren MP4/20 ( Spanish GP ) and a High Detail F2004 ( Belgian GP ) . If anyone is interested in getting photos of finished cars or modelling processes --- just give me a notice.
Kind regards from other side of the globe...
Ivo.
