Bob Letterman

The most veterans of the place will remember those photographs of fantastic "superdioramas" in Verlinden or FineScale Modeler publications 40 years ago, with a thousand and one details, completely innovative in techniques, details and concept. For sure you smiled unconsciously while remembering them, right? How many summer afternoons have you been enjoying with those dioramas?

One of the "wizards" of the time was Bob Letterman, who left us last Monday. In addition to being a great modeler, he laid the foundations for these super dioramas as we know them, he contributed a lot to the business world of modeling, he created the prestigious "Mastercon" event, he carried out the first modeling museum in the world called "Miniature World", he was a fundamental part in the growth and expansion process of "Verlinden Productions", and much more.

He has been a modeller and an entrepreneur really involved with the hobby, a true pioneer. From SpotModel we pay our little tribute to a lifetime dedicated to modeling. Rest in peace.

MFH May 2022 Re-releases

The month of May is slipping through our fingers, but there are still a few days left and there is still time to preorder some of the fantastic 1/12 scale models that MFH reissues. The list is really sweet: Porsche 917K, Alfa Romeo 159, Ferrari 256F1, Lancia 037 Rally and Ferrari 126C2. Run to preorder yours if you want it because they are very limited units and on May 31st they will stop accepting orders!!!

And more reissues: Nunu's reissues of both the Martini sponsored Lancia Delta S4 and the Audi Sport Quattro S1 of the official team return back to SpotModel's shelves. They are also limited units, so don't hesitate for too long!

And looking forward, we get news of an awesome release by Tamiya, nothing less than the Ducati Superleggera V4, which we are expecting to get after the summer.

A whole new universe

Why have the thinking heads of the world of modeling taken so long to bring out a marvel like the one we bring you today? By the hand of DAB Models we introduce you the 1/43 scale reproduction of the legendary Sega Rally 2 arcade machine... Combining rallies, video games and nostalgia all together? Come on man, who can resist that? XDDDD All the parts are made by 3D printing using the high quality resins that DAB Models has accustomed us to, achieving great detail and realism, which will undoubtedly delight the nerdiest of the geeks. We can already imagine more than a few racking their brains to find a way to include this arcade icon in some diorama XDDD

Rally challenge 2022

As many of you already know, the SpotModel facilities are located in southern Europe, at the Costa del Sol, an enviable place to live and work thanks to its microclimate with warm temperatures in summer and moderate temperatures in winter. We have beaches, forest and mountain areas, wonderful gastronomy, beautiful places to visit and enjoy. Where else could SpotModel be?

In addition, for modellers like us there is another attraction in the area, the Fuengirola Modeling Contest, an event that we have attended for many, many years... and that takes place this weekend!!! What an excitement, what a joy meeting again with the buddies to chat about models... Great!

In this edition there is a special prize called Rally Challenge 2022 for those cars that have participated in any Rally, Raid and stage race, made in 1/24 scale. Guys, this promises some serious fun!!! Be careful, the boss has already started packing a few models...

We didn't expect that!

A few weeks ago we told you about the Decalcas chain for the Suzuki GSX-RR an awesome product that left us speechless. History repeats itself and Decalcas surprises us again with another great product that we did not expect: a detail-up set for the Suzuki GSX-RR by Tamiya that replaces parts such as the rear brake disc and caliper, rear tire axle and nut, chain tensioner, brake and gear shifting levers, stand brackets, and also adds the antennas to the side camera and replaces the fastening screws of the visible chassis sections already included in the original Tamiya box for new resin parts that faithfully recreate the head of the originals, as well as replacing the numerous simulated screws on the surface of the fairing. Look at that!

We were speechless when we received the blister with the pieces: amazing detail and a simply perfect part listing, with every single one of them designed for providing greater realism to the model even if you are not an experienced modeler.

Our motorcycle lover friends, you can be happy, reaaaally happy, because Decalcas also told us that they are already working on parts for another Tamiya motorcycle. Which one will be the lucky one?

Ford Escort Zakspeed

In the 1979 European Touring Car Championship, a group 2 Ford Escort of the German team Zakspeed sponsored by D&W took the third place. Veterans tell us that the top three of the ranking finished with 180 points, and that it was a dizzying and exciting season like few others.

In those days the Italian brand Esci made our lives happy by recreating this car in plastic at 1/24 scale. It was later reissued in the 90's by the hands of Gunze Sangyo and ERTL, and now it sees the light again with the reissue carried out by Italeri. At the product level we are always talking about the very same molds and the very same parts, only that the decals have been freshly printed. Non-stop

We recently told you about the Fuengirola Scale Modeling Contest, a couple of weeks ago they raced the 24 Hours of Le Mans, last week the Safari Rally was held and in the United Kingdom the Goodwood Festival of Speed, this weekend is celebrated the Le Mans Classic in France and the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone. What a joy! We love that normality returns to our lives, and that races, model competitions and all those adventures that we all love so much are finally back.

The bad news is that so many events translates into the fact that manufacturers must also manage a well-loaded agenda, and so the number of new products that come to light decreases, which is even appreciated here to let us catch a break and concentrate on the workbench to push forward our already started projects.

Among the novelties that we bring you we want to highlight the two punctual reissues that Studio27 has made of the carbon fiber patterns for the Yamaha YZF-R1M and the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP by Tamiya in 1/12 scale, since they are unit limited reeditions and will be available for a very short time.

Vasek Polak Racing Team

All racing teams usually have a gasoline lover behind them and the Vasek Polak Racing Team is a clear example of this. Its Czech founder Vasek Polak began his career as a mechanic and racing in local events in his native country. He moved to the USA where he started repairing US Army engines, and later he opened a small repair shop. A few years after that, he became the first seller of Porsche vehicles in North America. Creating his own racing team full of models like the 917, 934, 935, etc. was just a matter of time.

The lads at Decalcas have set their sights on a beautiful 1/24 scale livery of one of the Vasek Polak team's Porsche 934, specifically the winner of the 1976 SCCA Trans-American championship in its category, which you can use on both Tamiya and Revell models.

The manufacturer also told us that if there is a minimum number of interested modelers, then they will also release this decal in 1/12 scale

What is certain is that the 1/24 scale version can already be reserved at SpotModel

Carrera GTP

During the 80s, Porsche created a machine that would become a true racing legend. An engine tuned to offer up to 325 horsepower, less than 1000 kilograms in weight, widened and fattened on all sides giving it an absolutely impressive appearance... a beauty that raced at Le Mans in 1981 and that now we will finally be able to build in 1/24 scale. Great!!!

On fire!!!

As many of you know, SpotModel is located in the south of Spain, at the Costa del Sol. A destination that many choose to enjoy on vacation due to its climate, beaches, gastronomy, atmosphere and the large number of nice cars that can be seen on the streets XD

But, and precisely for that reason, things get a bit complicated in summer due to the large number of tourists who visit us and the high temperatures recorded by the thermometer, especially high this year. We have so much, soooooo much heat that the airbrush feels like a little dragon spitting fire... Despite this, our level of addiction to scale models is such that we just can't stop

This month of August starts very calmly in terms of new products and with some delays by almost every manufacturer, who have the good habit of going on vacation on these dates.
