Re: I have a theory...
Ah! I see it now.
Mattiachi goaded Alonso? Perhaps. But perhaps this is deal done for a Ron Dennis exit strategy. Honda wanted back in to F1 but on their terms (like Mercedes). So, they sign up Alonso (not Mclaren) and worked with Ron on his exit. He comes back to the F1 team to get it back ship shape for sale to Honda.
With Alonso on his way, Ferrari pull on their string to Vettel. This deal was done a way back.
No Mclarens next year. It will be Hondas versus Mercedes.

Re: I have a theory...
And just for you doubters of my theory
Oh ye! of little faith... Please, none of this is confirmed though, so don't take it as fact!!!
But it does open up the debate further

Re: I have a theory...
Everyone seem to think that Honda will conquer it all next year. Hondas first year record until now is not that good and they also need good aero.. mclaren has been horrible in that apartment for a long time so will be interesting. Hoping ferrari can strike back next year but if they are not allowed to upgrade the engine it will be tricky.

I don't get that Honda will buy Mclaren. Surely if someone where to buy Mclaren they would have to buy the whole group, you couldn't buy just Mclaren racing. I reckon Honda will come back as a pure powertrain supplier. You have to wonder if Ron can ever work with Fernando but I don't see that Ron would walk from Mclaren just so that Alonso can come back. As for Ross Brawn, donethink we'll see him in F1 again in a technical role. All of the above are purely my opinion/guesswork.Zuff wrote:Ah! I see it now.

Re: I have a theory...
That was a complete dream team centering around one driver. If not, then why on earth did Ferrari offered an astronomical sum for Schumi? He was the two times defending champ at Benetton and he was fine there. But he needed a challenge - to race for the famous team and get the coveted Constructors' crown since '83 and the drivers' title since '79. Everything was stacked to Schumi's favour. If not, then how come his lackeys always moving over for him. And why didn't he wanted to help Eddie to win the '99 title when he was fully recovered from his leg incident at Silverstone? Luca didn't even know about his conditions until Schumi's daughter told him that "Daddy was kicking the football in the garden." The Ferrari team during the 1999 to 2004 was the best ever assembled. I am not discredit Schumi's contribution but there were other important players that truly deserved recognition too.Tiffoc wrote:And Jean Todt was the Wizard who orchestrated, composed and produced that dream team...Seiiki wrote:Trust me. Fernando meant it when he wanted at least one more title to complete his career so he could be immortalized like his great hero Senna. Even though there won't be another Ayrton, ever. But he is the closest we see as a "complete" driver. The difference between Schumi and Fernando at Ferrari were simple. Schumi had the best personnel behind him at all levels. That Ferrari team was a "galaticos" of specialist across the board. Jean Todt scaled Le Mans in 2 years for Peugeot to beat Porsche - that's an incredible achievement. Rory Byrne was neck-in-neck the best designer besides one Adrian Newey. Then you have the brain of the team, Ross Brawn, running strategies that were impeccable. On the engine side, you have a team of Osamu Goto (Then the head huncho on Honda during the Senna years.), Aldo Costa (he was the brain behind the current Mercedes engine), with Paolo Martinelli playing the second fiddle. Then Nigel Stepney joined as the lead mechanic. At the helm, Luca was handling the media as the face of the team. Don't forget that Eddie Irvine and Rubens Barrichello were the highly paid lackeys for him. Plus Schumi did the lion share of the testing and preferences of special Bridgestone tyres for him while everyone else got the specs. When Fernando got here, almost everyone was gone so there was no way that he could do a Schumi repeat.
When Michael joined, he made suggestions of further people he'd worked with and Jean made them the offers they couldn't refuse...
Where've I heard that before??? Was it: " THE GODFATHER " ???
But Seiiki I heard you the first time, is there an echo in here? or is it a Parrot?...
No it's Seiiki's finger on the Mouse, hinting at another film: " A CLICK TO FAR "

Re: I have a theory...
I don't see why the McLaren Road car and Technology components could be hived off from the F1 team to allow the latter to be sold. Its just a matter of instructing the right lawyers. Dennis made it clear in interviews a few years back that he wanted to focus on the road car division. He is a cool, calculating individual. I can't see him taking the distraction of coming back into the F1 side for passionate reasons; rather to put it in order at the request of new owners?daveyman wrote:I don't get that Honda will buy Mclaren. Honda must have watched what happened with Brawn/Mercedes and reallised that the best way to get a bang for their buck was to have their name on the car. Remember, in the Japanese psyche, they would have suffered a huge 'loss of face' when they had to withdraw at the end of 2008.
Anyway, its fun trying to second guess all of this. For me, the only sadness is that I cannot see how Button will be F1 next year. A tough year for him. First his Dad, now this.

Re: I have a theory...
I'm just thinking from a purely logistical point of view that they operate from the same facility. It would be like Mclaren renting workshop space to Honda. Like I say, it's only an opinion.

Interesting concept, actually very cool, but would need significant redesign for the rules!Tiffoc wrote:And just for you doubters of my theory

For anyone who's having a hard time keeping everything straight, here's an excellent summary of the various Alonso rumours ffloating around currently.
