3d printing: Porsche 935 Kremer K3 in 1/12 scale
Hi guys,
here is my next project.
I did this car already in 1/12 a while ago and i made molds and stuff and casted it in resin. That was old-school modeling.
The model went well and i sold some of the copies. But that was the problem. The molds getting old and from copy to copy the model was getting even bad.
Making new molds is very time intensive and you need the space to store these molds.
But now i wanted to make that 935 K3 again but this time in 3d print.
You always get the best possible quality even from the first print one with every copy.
I got some files from my buddy Torsten who did the body when i made the old-school one.
And now i found a nice Assetto-Corsa model who got some nice details.
Because i am not an 3d design guy i had to go my own way.
The only thing i am good in is merge and cut.Thats all.
Here is the first test print of the K3 body in 1/12 scale. I had to cut the body in 3 pieces because my printer is not big enough.
Next parts are the chassis which will be a 2-part print.
Will include some more parts which will be shown here when they are ready.
Hope you like it?
regards Christian

First testprint of the chassis was not so good.
The wall-thickness is too low and so the print is crispy like paper.
Have to make the walls solid now.
Next one should be better i hope.

Looking great Christian!
Wallthickness is realy thin, also on the bodywork, which thickness did you choose?
Actually i used 1,5mm on some things i printed, but the are not that big. Don`t know if i can go for 1mm without warping, what you think?

Re: 3d printing: Porsche 935 Kremer K3 in 1/12 scale
Hi Guido,
my body parts are now 1mm thick. Its very thin and i am not sure if its already too thin now.Maybe i will try to get 1,2 or 1,3mm.
The chassis is thicker but the body is only 1mm.
My plan against warping is to cure the 2 chassis parts first and than use some duct tape to hold the body in the best place on the chassis and than cure it.
Thats worked well on the Porsche 917 and i hope it also works on the K3 now.

Re: 3d printing: Porsche 935 Kremer K3 in 1/12 scale
Hi Christian, 1mm sure sounds nice. No idea what the injection moulded kits have for thickness - probably something similar. Would there be the option of adding more exposure time to the resin while printing? However, that would increase the printing time depending on how much time you add. Sadly I haven't really gathered any useful first hand experience as to what the effect of increasing the exposure time really has.
That aside, this looks like another awesome project. Are you going to be using the Tamiya 935 (reissue) kit as a donor for chassis, engine, etc. or is it going to be all in one. Some of the AC models are relatively complete (I think the 917/30 is one such) whereas others only have the visible parts.
Further ideas. The superb MK1 GT40 from AC and maybe the MKIV GT40 from Pcars? Juuuust putting that out there

Thank you for information Christian!
That is realy impressing how thin you printed this! Now i`m sure i can reduce the wall thickness too on my Looney toons prints i`m actually doing, thought 2mm is a risk, but 1,5mm worked and now i will try the 1mm. Safes some resin finaly, so thank you for your tip!

you can safe more time with the lift hight in between the layers and the speed it`s lifting, exposure time at my Mars 2 pro is about 2,7 seconds and it works fine. The finaly curing of the material is done by the curing light, but there are no problems when washing the model after printing with my actuall settings. Don`t know Chrisitans exposure settings, would be nice if he would share it.

Re: 3d printing: Porsche 935 Kremer K3 in 1/12 scale
This time this will be a curbside kit including a chassis and stuff.
No need for a Tamiya kit.
Time on printing is not a big thing.Even when i get down with the exposure time its not that much difference.
The bigger parts run overnight in something between 11-14h.
I got 2 Saturns for the bigger parts and thats fine.
My settings are attached if you are interested in.
regards Christian
A GT40 ?
Mhmm nice car but not my cup of tea.And as i mentioned before i am not a 3d guy.I need the data to print this and i have to take what i can get. Maybe a Escort mk1 and the Lancia Beta will be next. But who knew?

Thank you for posting your settings Christian!
My settings are not too far away from yours, just the bottom layers, i reduced them to 4 with an exposure time of 45 seconds, lifthight is 5mm, just a few minutes to safe here, not much. But maybe lifthight depends also on the size difference between Mars and Saturn.
Is that chitubox 1.9.0? I wonder about the language.
