The rear wheel separation was made by you? Rear wheel looks poor in detail compared to Mercedes: bulges are missing all around the edge.
I have a question about the scale of these models (Merc, Aston and McL): is it intended to be 1/20 right? I am struggling to understand if it is right or not... for example: which is the diameter of the rims? It should be 13"? Right?
The prints are in scale 1/20, the model wasn't it. I rescaled it for printing... yes diameter of the rims is 13" or the diamter of the wheels are 670mm.
In scale rim diameter is some 17.8mm
Don´t try to find a direct match with 13" since the 13" refers to an inner, smaller diameter where tyre rests on the rim.
I struggled a lot till I understood that.
Sure Thomas rims are spot on!
I can measure it today, but I always referred to the outer diameter of the tires.
The indication of the tire width is also deceptive and should therefore not be used for scaling, as this indication relates to the tread and not to the width.
According to FIA 2021 technical regulations (section 12), the diameter of the rim lip is 358 mm, approx. 14" (17.9 mm in 1/20). The outer diameter of wheel (tire) is 670 mm maximum for dry tires and 680 mm for wet tires. The maximum width of the wheel is between 370 mm and 385 mm for front wheel and 455 mm and 470 mm for rear wheel.
From Pirelli's website:
Green wet: front: 305/675-13, rear 405/675-13
Blue wet: front: 305/680-13, rear 405/680-13
The width specified is the tread width only.
So in 1/20, the dry tire diameter should be 33.5 mm. The front tire width is between 18.5 mm and 19.25 with tread width at 15.25 mm. The rear tire width is between 22.75 and 23.5 mm with tread width at 20.25 mm.
