Re: Mercedes AMG W12 2021
Hi Thomas,
I mean you can spray the stocking pattern on a clear decal sheet to make it a carbon fiber decal. That way, you controls the contrast for the fiber pattern.
By the way, I bought some CB decal sheets from Tamiya. Their patterns are more subtle than other manufacturers and I like them more. They have decals suitable for 1/20 and 1/24.

Ah ok, it would definitely be worth a try.
I used Tamiya decal sheet for the front and rear wing.

Re: Mercedes AMG W12 2021
So I still want to submit the pictures of the rims. I had promised and forgot to take the pictures.

I'm still thinking about how to paint the tires...
Actually, I wanted to make them matt to create a little contrast. But basically the tires also shine - but only the flanks ... when they are driven, the tread becomes matt. Therefore I am considering making them in semigloss and sanding the tread again. What do you all mean

I would also go for a flat base and a semigloss flank, completely semigloss looks a bit toyish i think.
Keep it coming, great job so far!

Re: Mercedes AMG W12 2021
It's not 100% part of the project, but I thought it would fit in quite well.
I once tested the 2022 18-Inch Tires similar to Lewis Hamilton with the Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 on the Imola Circuit on April 20, 2021.

Re: Mercedes AMG W12 2021
Yes, the W12 ... somehow I just had to let it rest a little for a while. Sometimes that's just the way it is and you need a little distance.
I had 2 problems.
On the one hand the tires - on the one hand I wanted to make the tread appear matt and on the other hand to make the flank shiny - just like the real tires are after starting off. That's exactly what I tried, but I wasn't really satisfied. I'll spare you the photos. In addition, for whatever reason I had a bad silvering on the decals, I didn't have that at all on the front and rear wings.
And then the airbox. I had planned and made decals here, but after a test I had to find out that these simply cannot be applied in a good quality in this area. So the decision to paint. But now the question of what exactly to choose a color. And that decision just took a while. And sometimes you are lucky and the wait is good. In the meantime I designed the cameras for the AMR21 myself and therefore decided to swap them for the W12 as well.
I removed the two cameras to install the new self-designed versions that are more detailed. So I had to saw this off and sand the area. Then prime again in preparation for the red paint and only apply the black edge strip as a decal.

Current status without suspensions and wheels/tires. The next step is to apply additional carbon decals to the chassis so that the clear coat can then be applied.

What about your test of printing tires? I am interested!
