Re: Mercedes AMG W12 2021
I was able to finish the seat today.

The final painting of the body has also been completed - here comes the clearcoat next.

Now I can concentrate on the carbon decal work for now.
Here, too, I started today with the front wing.

I think this thread needs to be marked as "adults only"
Amazing work and progress.
As a by the by, how do you find working with 3D printed resin in general?
I mean processes like gluing, sanding, bending etc.
Is it harder than plastic or "regular" resin? does it respond well to normal glue?

Great work on the kit!

I'll try to write something about the questions...
It is definitely different from working with plastic. But it can be compared to my 1: 1 with the well-known resin kit material.
But basically I really enjoy working with the material. There are just a few things to keep in mind.
Gluing:
Gluing basically only works with CA glue. What you can of course also use is a 2K epoxy resin or liquid resin for UV curing. CA glue usually sticks immediately or after a few seconds - the advantage here is an immediate adhesive bond, the disadvantage - basically no correction is possible. The epoxy resin can be used to have a slightly longer flexible and correctable glue point. The disadvantage is that you have to fix it until it hardens completely. Same with UV resin, here you decide when it hardens, the disadvantage here is that the area must be accessible to light.
Sanding:
In my opinion, grinding is more time-consuming than with plastic, in my opinion the resin is harder than plastic. At least that's how I feel. Still, it can basically be worked with the same tools. I don't use anything other than plastic. What you should pay attention to are wearing a mask when sanding, preferably a suction or wet sanding. One should avoid inhaling the dust from the sand.
Sawing / Cutting:
Resin can be sawed and cut almost as well as plastic. Again, I don't have any other tools. What I would wish for would be an ultrasonic cutter - this part is simply awesome but also has its price - in any case, that would be my dream...! What you should be aware of is that resin is slightly more brittle than plastic. It tends to splinter or break out. Therefore, I usually remove my support structure before curing.
Bending:
Is basically not possible. It brings about due to the brittleness of the material. But to a certain degree it is possible to "straighten" the parts. However, this is less and less possible after printing and depending on the degree of curing. The material has a high stiffness and even the thinnest structures are very "hard" and resilient after hardening (the steering wheel of my Ferrari 158 only has a spoke thickness of 0.3mm). In any case, it cannot be bent like the well-known styrene sheets, but here you can combine both technologies.
If there are any further questions I will of course always try to answer them, as far as I know an answer.
Greetings Thomas

Re: Mercedes AMG W12 2021
Thank you!
I am hoping to enter the workd of 3D printing at some point, but it worth knowing what you are getting yourself into first.

Re: Mercedes AMG W12 2021
Only some smaller updates.
I was on a business trip the last days, so no time for modelling...
Little more details on the front wing.

But I received the carbon decals I had ordered and was able to continue with the front suspension.
