Re: 1/6 Porsche 917 Engine Full Detail
thanks Roman ! I'm afraid however, that a full detail model kit (like my one off 1:6) will be unaffordable. The effort is simply too high

I can`t believe the scale when looking at the pictures, looks 1:1, awesome work Uli!
Take a stand!

Re: 1/6 Porsche 917 Engine Full Detail
Development of the engines continues. Currently working on the 1:6 full detail and 1:8 curbside versions in parallel
1:6 full detail:
Oil distribution casting finished with all fittings installed and mounted on crankcase right half:
Intake and exhaust valves finished and installed in cylinder heads. Each valve train consists of the valve, valve guidance tube, inner and outer spring, spring retainer rings and the machined tappet bucket. Valves are fully functional in terms of movement (controlled by camshaft)
CAD view:
and model parts:
and last but not least, the 1:8 quick & dirty assembled prototype to test dimensional accuracy:
BR, Uli

YUMMY! I like what I see. Is that last shot made up of individual parts or one solid block? Knowing you, several parts, probably 50-100, seperate pieces for each cylinder etc. Seems that at 1/12 the fins for the cylinders might become an issue, so PE time?
Judging by the 1/6 parts I would assume, that the engine would work if you pump some fuel and air through it. Oh well, scale spark plugs would pose a problem, right?

Re: 1/6 Porsche 917 Engine Full Detail
thanks mates !
Roman, the 1:8 prototype as shown on the picture consists of the same amount of parts as for the 1:6 - so no solid block.
In parallel to the 1:8 engine/transmission development, a friend of mine has made the drawings and is test building the 917KH frame from brass in the same scale, which will be the basis for our joint project, a complete 917 rolling chassis in 1:8. I'll start with building my frame, as soon the engine development is done. Still a long way to go ...

GEIL!
beautiful. I will have to check my own A3 sized chassis drawings (1/12) to see if the figures match yours (in scale). I had envisioned my frame as two part, inner and outer core. Why? The inner core will be soldered using solid brass to give the strength and stability. The outer core will be hollow aluminium tubes JB-welded, because I want the real look without paint as I don't trust the thin aluminium tubes to carry the entire weight. For painted frames brass will be fine, as you won't see the material anyway. Oh btw, there is another 917 nutcase out there? Group therapy sessions are just around the corner

Roman, there’s a few of us 917 “geeks” around. We could hold a “meeting” at the Porsche Museum, maybe?
