Re: 1/6 Porsche 917 Engine Full Detail
Hi and Bill, Guido, thanks for your kind comments !
In the meantime, I could finish the distributors in 1:6 and 1:8 scale. Both versions are full detail including the internal construction.
Here some pics of my CAD work, which has been the basis for the models in all details
... and the final parts of the model (1:6 scale)
Design and parts production of the alternators and the Bosch MFI are done as well. Need to assemble the whole thing now .. it's gonna to be fun especially for the MFI
BR,
Uli

Uli, what Christian said - this is the good kind of insane. I love it, every little bit of it.
Actually, I think it would be fun "diorama" to have all the pieces that will make up the engine laid out around the block, like in those olden days "there parts make your car" layouts, because that will show off how many pieces are actually going into it. Just the distributor is made up of 69 parts. I know of kits where the entire car has less than that.
Oh and of course the frame on the page before is also excellent!

Re: 1/6 Porsche 917 Engine Full Detail
Hi and many thanks to all of you for your encouraging comments !
The "Reverse Engineering" of the original and the design and building of this model is indeed a lot of fun and a very exiting journey.
Today's update is about the fully detailed Bosch alternator(s). As the model will represent an engine as raced at the 24hrs of Le Mans, two alternators had to be built.
Parts overview - a mix of 3D printed, machined, etched parts and Autograph hex bolts:
Stator and rotor parts with central shaft:
Various assembly steps:
And finally mounted on the engine:
The Bosch MFI will come next ...
BR, Uli

As an Engineer myself, this is really NSFW content Uli
And I really hope, the 1:6 scale will be purchasable some time at last...
