OBITUORY: MAX MOSLEY has passed away

Post by JamesB »

I just was shocked by the news.
Max Mosley was 81. No doubt he was a key figure from mid seventies to mid 200´s. Race (remember he was the M at March) and rule in peace

Sorry to hear. Don't miss him on the F1 scene. Introduced some real bad ideas. Selling the commercial rights to F1.

Details have just emerged about Mosley´s death. It was a suicide, and to be polite, let´s say it did not take much analysis to clear that. It has been revealed after a court hearing about the facts.
Really sad indeed, but what I wanted to underline, considering no detail (AFAIK) had been revealed yet, so far, and let´s say they are quite tremendous and prone to become tabloid food, is how privacy is kept, protected and respected in the UK.
Brits, you can be proud of this. Indeed not the same in every country.

They said he was in alot of pain due to cancer. Some of the rules he made for F1 were not my favorites, but a hard way to go. RIP.

It's unfortunate that Mosely needed to resort to an extreme. I however disagree with his contribution to F1. The sale of the F1 commercial rights were a disaster.

This is one of the things Moseley campaigned for in the last few years after being subject of a newspaper sting that weaved a scurrilous story about him with little in the way of facts. He fought it despite it being a Murdoch paper which in turn led to exposure of the illegal activities of much of the "popular" British newspaper press over the early part of this century.
This along with his campaigning for car safety through NCAP which means we drive much safer vehicles now makes his and Bernie's selling of F1 commercial rights very small beer. If they hadn't done that where would the sport be now? Better? Maybe, an interesting debate that affects most sports.
Netflix has an interesting documentary about him simply called Moseley, worth a watch, I think he had the albatross of his father to contend with but had conviction and wasn't afraid to push it, not many can say that.
