Overcompensation for the too small rims and too fat tires on the Bugatti T35? :-)

Well they might look ok. The rest of the kit is real nice, and with small modifications you can do the Goodwood TT 1959 with regular wheel wells. DBR1/2 ran that race with the Lemans high tail but otherwise normal body. I think it's the best looking DBR1. It also won the race and 1959 championship at that race with Stirling Moss driving.

So, what about the color choice?

Zero paints matched color (hard to find) or something else?

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe time to try real car paints. Zero is really getting slow.

I've been using real car (lacquer) paints for years. Common colors from Dupli-color sprays, decanted for airbrush use. Special colors from autobody supply stores. Formulas for various color are available on-line or in the old books that the shop, if it's an old one, will have. Expensive but if you do a lot of British cars paint 'em all BRG!

Just an updated clarification. Several people on the ferrarichat model thread have measured the wheels and tires on the DBR1/2 and have come to the conclusion the wheels are correct but the tires are in fact to small. For the wheels they have a lip so they measure oversized to 17 inches to scale because of the lip. One person measured a real Aston Martin 16 inch wheel and found the 16 inch wheel is 17 inches wide including the lip. Tires are still a problem. You might be able to use the rears on the front but they will be slightly oversized. That's how far Hiro was off on the tires.

I am very glad the wheels are correct as that would have been very hard to fix. The other 1950's Ferrari sportscars were also showing 17 inches to the edge of the lip so that would be terrible news. But everything on the wheels is ok after double checking. The tires on the other hand are something Hiro really needs to work on. The model other than the tires is very nice.

Wolfgang Singhof posted this on Ferrarichat:

DBR1/2 tires

Dunlop 6.00 L16 (front)

actual width 201mm - 1/12 = 16,75 mm - against Hiro 14,7mm
overall diameter inflated 708mm - 1/12 = 59mm - against Hiro 56,5mm

Dunlop 6.50 L16 (rear)

actual width 227mm - 1/12 = 18,9mm - against Hiro 17,2mm
overall diameter inflated 729mm - 1/12 = 60,75 - against Hiro 59,6mm

So Hiro´s tyres in fact are too small in diameter and width. With the front worse than the rear.
