Pete, what aircraft type were you on in the AF? I'm a pilot myself (non-military), so just curious. EDIT: let me clarrify that, I "was" a commercial pilot up to about the point Bin Laden sent his boys flying in '01. I was a KC-135 pilot. As I was frequently reminded, the only job in the A...

Ah, the Barbie Ferrari! I remeber that one. Built it for the display at the old Tamiya North America HQ. Lots of work to get rid of the ejector pin marks. Been working on the MB CLK for 8 years now(Just can't get too it). Again lots of pin marks. Also seems to scream for detail. Stuff you wouldn't n...

Intersting responses for all. Been all over the US. Started life on a farm in Nebraska, went to the University of Wyoming in Laramie, pilot traing in the USAF in Del Rio Texas, moved to the northern part of the lower Michigan, coastal Alabama, then to Spokane Washington. Left the Air Force and came ...

RE: Re: RE: Re: Alclad Chrome / Polished Aluminium Question

I split the cost of a pint starter kit of Mirrachrome(Alsa)with a couple of other modelers and per ounce it is about the same as Alcad. It is just a little harder to find in very small quantities. Do a goggle for it and you can find venders for small quantites. It also requires that you use their ba...

To get a lignt coat I just move faster. Distance can cause orange peel(lumpy surface). The problem with varying the distance is that the paint arrives at the model dryer and won't flow out as well. Interstingly, I did a test on the cans several years ago and the differance from 6 to 7 inches, increa...

RE: HeLp!

Just another thought. I don't know if you had a problem with a clean line, but you can improve that by spraying a light coat of the the base coat(white in this case) over the tape seam before you spray the second color. That seals the seam and gives you a very sharp line.

Johnny - The paint is not dry yet. If you sprayed couple of wet coats, one after another, it may take weeks to set. A good technique is to lay down very light coats, a couple of hours apart. By light, I mean that you can see through the first couple. The chemistry of the technique is this. A thin co...

RE: Re: RE: Tamiya Spray Cans

Johnny F. You have to spray Tamiya in very thin coats about 15 minutes appart. By thin, I mean see through for the first couple. Don't get carried away trying to get it all done with ono coat. It will never work. Pete J.

Sorry about the size. I normally down size the photo but just reciently started using photoshop. My prior software resized in a significantly differant manner. Photo shop can resize in several differant ways, and I just came to grips with that software. It looked ok on my monitor, but it is a 20 inc...
