Re: Polishing clearcote question

How do I describe the speed? I guess it is a lower medium speed. I want to feel the wheel "float" on the surface. I use a cloth polishing wheel. It looks like Dremel discontinued the one to use with a regular mandril and only sells in with the EZ mandrel. The item # is 423e. When you get i...

Re: Polishing clearcote question

For getting rid of orange peel, you need to sand the surface flat. I know, "well dua!" but how you do it is important. Sandpaper and sanding sponges have too much flexibly to take the minimum amount of paint off. Nail buffers have a stiffer backing and will cut the bumps off with a minimum...

Re: Tamiya TS sprays - Fragile?

Pete. How about tape over the paint? How long do you wait to do a secondary color and have you had any distortion on the paint under the tape? I had that on one of my models. I generally leave it in my food dehydrator overnight and never had any issues with any taping. Just FYI, I use Fineline auto...

Re: Tamiya TS sprays - Fragile?

Not sure what is happening, but I have literally painted 100's of items with TS paints and never had any issue with it. I have often dropped painted items on a concrete floor and never seen a single chip. That is weird!

Re: Tyrrell P34 Swedish GP 1976 Tamiya 1/12

Guys, thanks for Your advices. Want to clarify. I wish to became not semi-gloss, but gloss surface in stanards of 70's. I will test on spoons first and than will be clear. Maybe I'll leave it as it's now. Good point about the "standards of the 70's". This is really an issue of "the s...

Good work, keep it on! :)
I'll second the gloss paint. The photos I took of the one in Tamiya's lobby show it was finished with a gloss. Race worn but a gloss nonetheless.

What is up with tamiyas RB6

I was futzing around on e-bay just now and noticed that Tamiya's RB6 is going for upwards of $200! These are auctions that were complete and there were multiple bidders so that is actual price people are paying for it. It looks like auction starting prices are at least $100. Can anybody explain why ...

Re: 1/20 Tamiya P34 6 Wheeler trans kit

Always liked the variants of the P34. This one is particularly interesting. The last two photos look like they illustrate the downfall of using Fuji film. Back in the day you never used it on a blue subject on an overcast day. Turned everything green. Kodak didn't.

Re: 1950s - the lost decade in models

I agree that the choice of subjects by manufactures can be a bit unfathomable. Having said that, I would remind everyone of the illusion of central position. That is that "I am in the middle and most people think like me." This is simply not true. Just because you want one doesn't mean tha...

Ok, this is the cadillac(Rolls Royce for those on the other side of the pond). https://www.starrett.com/metrology/product-detail/S166Z I am not a fan of cheap tools. I have wasted more money on cheap tools that frustrate the heck out of me and I ultimately wind up buying a good quality one, that I h...
