Re: Tamiya 1:12 Ferrari 312B

Finally, I managed to use my new airbrush kit and paint the wheels. I de-chromed them a few weeks ago (diluted Domestos) and primed them with Tamiya grey. DSCN0053_s.jpg I then splashed out on a professional spray booth (cardboard box and some newspaper!) and sprayed the wheels. I used one part Tami...

Re: Tamiya 1:12 Ferrari 312B

Its a few weeks since my last update and some progress has been made. First to answer gp-models question: this is going to be 99% standard out-of-the-box build, as I am still very much a novice. I have some replacement seat belts because I thought the strap that comes in the kit looks ridiculous, an...

Re: Tamiya 1:12 Ferrari 312B

So a bit more work in general - engine, gearbox, cockpit, oil tanks etc. I put the battery together last week, and tried to apply the VARLEY decal today. I say try because I think I have a problem. The decal would not come off the backing paper even after about 1 minute soaking. So I tried to slide ...

Re: Tamiya 1:12 Ferrari 312B

A bit more work on the instrument panel. Either I have the wrong reference photos, or this part is nothing like the real thing! I filled the holes where the decals will fit over, then painted it metallic black (Humbrol 203) - don't know why - and added a few blobs of colour for switches. DSCN0022_s....

Re: Tamiya 1:12 Ferrari 312B

@Ian, the kit decals have number 3, 4, and 6 and names for Jacky Ickx, Clay Regazzoni and Mario Andretti. Inside the instructions, it lists the races from 1970 and early 1971 with the drivers numbers, and also includes Ignazio Giunti. There are brief instructions on how to make your own numbers for ...

Re: Tamiya 1:12 Ferrari 312B

So, it felt like a productive weekend; I had a full day yesterday and this morning, but it dosen't look like I have made much progress. I am building a 1:25 Ertl '39 Wagon Rod at the same time to practice on which has come on well so I think that's where the effort has gone. Anyway... I have done a ...

Re: Tamiya 1:12 Ferrari 312B

DSCN0842_s.jpg Just like Lego or something from Ikea, step 1 is not usually the first step! So I started at step 10 by creating the engine block. As a novice, this is a good, safe place to start (I think) - make a small box and build on to it. And it's surprising just how much you can learn from th...

Tamiya 1:12 Ferrari 312B

It's been a very long time coming, but I am finally building this model. First a bit of background... I made a few Tamiya 1:20 F1 models when I was young but I didn't do a very good job of them. They have since fallen apart and whats left looks like it was built by an 8-year old, which I probably wa...
