Re: Who will win the 2021 Italian Grand Prix?

My question is this. Does the many safety features inures the drivers to try maneuvers that they otherwise would not? That is exactly what I was thinking with these last few crashes. Giving the drivers near invincibility when they are in their cars paves the way for careless or reckless driving. I'...

Re: 3d printing: Porsche 935 Kremer K3 in 1/12 scale

Interesting. I didn't know you could do that. What kind of effect does that have on the stability of the printed parts with a given thickness vs the 100% resin with no softener? Also why do you do that, what is the benefit of adding softener to the resin? Is it to get smoother transitions between la...

Re: Are 3D printing clubs the future?

That aside, even if we don't get a separate section for 3D printing, can we at least have one sticky somewhere? Maybe right here in scratchbuilding? That sticky (which would need to be maintained btw) should be where either the most common topics for 3D printing can be linked or they should be added...

Re: 3d printing: Porsche 935 Kremer K3 in 1/12 scale

Hey Derek, no need to translate... My PC / phone devices are all set up in English, so my Chitubox is running in English as well. These are Christian's settings: 1. Layer Height: 0.05 mm 2. Bottom Layer Count: 8 3. Transition Layer Count: 10 4. Transition Type: Linear 5. Exposure Time: 3.5 sec 6. Bo...

Re: 3d printing: Porsche 935 Kremer K3 in 1/12 scale

Hi Christian, 1mm sure sounds nice. No idea what the injection moulded kits have for thickness - probably something similar. Would there be the option of adding more exposure time to the resin while printing? However, that would increase the printing time depending on how much time you add. Sadly I ...

Re: Non-Auto modelling: Flipping massive Zeppelins

Awesome! And that is nuts, the positive kind :D. Due to all the conversion work on the measurements, and for obvious size reasons, I would have probably gone for 1/200. That would also work nicely with the large scale ships ;). Those things are absolute monsters and really nicely done. Thanks for sh...

Re: 3D Printer Bed Comparison

Well the hypotenuse is about 518mm, so if you really want to max out the build size, that's the biggest it will go. And in 1/12, that works out to about 6 m or 20' which... yeah, that'll cover most full cars, let alone body sections. Really, you can start looking at 1/8 car prints at that size, if ...

Re: Get in touch with US Postal Service?!

Jordan, maybe it was stuck in customs? I get those cryptic status messages, especially when ordering from Asia (China, Japan, ...). Once they are through customs things tend to be picking up the pace again. My Meng Fokker DR.Is were stuck for 10 or so days in somewhere in Chinese customs or whatnot....

Re: 3D Printer Bed Comparison

Awesome post, MoFo! Unless you want to print the entire car in one go, the Mega 8k is the way to go - not that there are affordable alternatives ;)). However, who is going to do that? Is there even a car where a single piece of bodywork is larger than that build envelope? I doubt it. Maybe stuff lik...
