Re: Decal printer

Before attempting to print decals on your own, have you tried sun-bleach? Some of my severely-yellowed decals took two weeks to restore. If you do try sun-bleaching, make sure you scan the original decal just in case the sunlight ruins other parts of the decal. I have tried the method on many decals...

Re: Bleeding

I don't think it's bleeding. Instead, the aggressive solvent in the clear is attacking the base paint and primer, allowing the light to reach the plastic, which bounces back to the eyes. I usually don't use 2K clear, so I don't have any bleeding problems, but when I do, I paint the body as below. Ap...

Re: Where did all the Tamiya Ferrari kits go?

Tamiya made an official announcement last spring, that they'd discontinue all Ferrari kits in the summer of 2019. Order sheet was sent out to retailers, and I believe 2019 Shizuoka hobby show was the last chance for stores to place orders. My guess is that Tamiya's Ferrari license will be on short-t...

I made a jig to mark where to drill holes (by hand), and another to hold pieces while gluing metal rods.

Re: Looking for a good and easy 3D design software

Whichever the program, start by completing a few dozen tutorials, then make simple parts, for example brake disks, starters, radiators etc. An object is a collection of surfaces, lines/curves, and points, and once you know how to make those basic elements, you can use any CAD. Below are designed on ...

Re: Tamiya Mazda 787B

The body of the 2019 reissue (24352) is molded in white instead of orange, which is probably the biggest advantage. Decals are done by Cartograf as the previous reissue (24112), but 2019 reissue lacks some sponsor decals, such as Cibie and Dunlop.

Re: LF alternative to shapeways with higher resolution print

Great thing about having a 3D printer at home is that you can run a test print at any time, and if the shape doesn't work, you can tweak the design and try again right away. I've been using Wanhao D7 for about 2 years, and I paid a little shy of $600 USD (shipped directly from the factory), not just...

Re: Carving New Panel Lines

You can use some of the photo-etched saws, or something similar. Even if it's hard to maintain a consistent depth, the width would look consistent. I use the right side of a hobby knife to mark the line, then deepen it with a PE saw-like scriber (Satellite Pen Liner set). I also use one of the Tamiy...

Re: Airbrush Orange Peel Frustration

I apply multiple coats of clear, altering the clear-to-thinner ratio progressively. Layer1: For the first few coats, I go with a relatively high clear-to-thinner ratio, and my goal is to give the orange peel dimples as small and fine as possible. This will also help reduce the risk of Layer 2 coat f...
